Classification

 Process of grouping organisms based on similarities and differences.

Main groups :

Kingdom → Phylum → Class → Order → Family → Genus → Species.


Specie
A specie is a group of organisms that can reproduce to produce fertile
offsprings

o Example
 Humans belong to one specie

Hybrids
 When two different species interbreed.
 Often infertile (cannot reproduce).
 Examples:
o Mule (donkey × horse) – infertile.
o Liger (lion × tiger) – sometimes fertile but rare.


Binomial System
Developed by Carl Linnaeus.

 Every species has a two-part Latin name:


o Genus (first, capital letter).
o Species (second, lowercase).
 Example:
o Homo sapiens → humans.
o Panthera leo → lion.
 Universal system – used worldwide.
