WORK DESCRIPTION
During my internship at Dhanraj Kankani & Company, I
performed a diverse set of tasks that mirrored real-world
accounting and audit practices.
Role Description and Assigned Tasks:
During the internship at Dhanraj Kankani & Company, I took
on the role of an accounting and audit intern under the
mentorship of CA Dhanraj Kankani. My core responsibilities
included:
• Client Accounting & Data Entry: Assisting with ledger
maintenance, journal entries, reconciliation of
transactions, and preparing TDS challans for submission
to the authorities.
• TDS Processing: Participated in creating and validating
entries for e-TDS returns using relevant software. Tasks
involved creating payee/deductor profiles, inputting
challan details (amounts, section codes, etc.).
• Audit Support: Joined the audit field in Dhemaji, assisting
with documentation checks, vouching of transactions,
organizing audit working papers, and drafting summaries
of audit findings. This mirrors common audit intern
responsibilities
Department / Team Involvement and Projects:
Although typically internship reports include team dynamics
and cross-functional collaboration, my experience diverged—
there was no broader department or team. Instead, I worked
solely in partnership with my mentor, CA Dhanraj Kankani,
which offered an exceptionally focused and intensive learning
environment.
1. One-on-One Mentorship Structure
Unlike typical internship models where an intern may
support multiple team members or departments, my
engagement was highly personalized. Working directly
under a seasoned chartered accountant meant
responsibilities were tailored to my learning pace, and
feedback was immediate and insightful.
2. Tailored Learning and Responsibility
This individualized structure meant I wasn't assigned
repetitive, peripheral tasks, but rather was given
meaningful responsibilities that enhanced my
understanding of both accounting and auditing.
3. Professional Growth through Focused Engagement
Being the sole intern, I had the opportunity to ask
questions freely and receive direct feedback, making the
experience highly developmental—consistent with best
practices in mentoring relationships
Problems Faced and Solutions Implemented:
1. TDS Challan Errors
• Problem:
Mistakes in TDS details such as incorrect PAN/TAN, wrong
section codes, mismatched deposit dates, or wrong
assessment years are frequent and can lead to
discrepancies , return rejections, or penalties
• Solution:
I meticulously double-checked each detail against official
documents before processing and submission.
2. Disorganized Audit Documentation During Fieldwork
• Problem:
During the Dhemaji audit visit, documentation was
sometimes incomplete or scattered, risking delayed or
inefficient audit procedures.
• Solution:
I reorganized documents on-site, arranging working
papers and ensuring ready availability of ledgers,
vouchers, and client records.
Key Observations:
Through my immersive internship with CA Dhanraj Kankani, I
gained multiple insights that reshaped my understanding of
professional auditing and accounting dynamics:
1. Precision Is Non-Negotiable
Even minor mistakes—like incorrect TAN/PAN numbers,
wrong section codes, or mismatches in financial year
details—can cause serious issues in TDS filings and audit
documentation. This taught me that accuracy is foundational
to the credibility of financial work.
2. Mentorship Offers Immense Learning Value
Working one-on-one with my mentor, CA Dhanraj Kankani,
provided immediate, tailored feedback and allowed me to
learn at a quick pace—a highly effective model compared to
broader-team-based internships.
3. Hands-On Audit Exposure Is Invaluable
Being at the audit site in Dhemaji offered much more than
textbook learning. It gave me clarity on how audit evidence is
gathered, documentation is validated, and how auditors
make informed decisions on the ground.
SKILLS ACQUIRED
1. Technical & Accounting Skills
• TDS Processing & Tax Filing: Gained hands-on
experience preparing and verifying TDS challans—
handling details like PAN/TAN, section codes, financial
years, and generating appropriate forms for submission.
• Audit Working Papers & Reporting: Learned how to
prepare, organize, and maintain audit documentation, as
well as assist in drafting structured audit reports—key
tasks in field audit execution and reporting.
2. Analytical & Reporting Skills
• Financial Reconciliation & Analysis: Refined abilities in
reconciling financial data, identifying discrepancies, and
understanding the flow from ledgers to audit
conclusions.
• Report Drafting: Developed skill in summarizing audit
findings into clear and coherent reports—essential for
communicating with clients and facilitating decision-
making.
3. Communication & Mentorship Engagement
Effective Communication: Enhanced both verbal and
written communication, especially in interacting one-on-
one with CA Dhanraj Kankani, and in structuring audit
summaries clearly for professional review
LEARNING OUTCOME
1. Practical Application of Accounting & Audit Knowledge
This internship enabled me to bridge the gap between theory
and practice. I applied foundational accounting concepts—like
double-entry bookkeeping, ledger reconciliations, and TDS
challan preparation—as well as audit-specific tasks, such as
organizing working papers and conducting documentation
reviews during the Dhemaji audit field visit. This reflects the
core goal of internships: to enhance understanding and
application of accounting principles in real-world settings.
2. Professional Skill Development
Through hands-on assignments and mentorship, I significantly
developed key soft skills—including written and oral
communication, problem-solving, and professional conduct.
Internships are widely recognized for reinforcing such skills,
complementing theoretical learning with practical
competence.
3. Integrity, Ethical Behavior & Professionalism
Handling client records, tax documentation, and audit reports
in a real-world context required strict adherence to ethical
standards and confidentiality. This environment fostered a
deep respect for integrity and professional demeanor—
qualities emphasized as essential outcomes of practical
accounting programs.
CONCLUSION
My internship at Dhanraj Kankani & Company, spanning from
5 July to 24 July 2025, provided an enriching bridge between
classroom knowledge and the realities of professional
accounting and audit practice. Working closely under the
guidance of CA Dhanraj Kankani, I carried out responsibilities
ranging from preparing TDS challans and reconciling financial
records to assisting with audit fieldwork in Dhemaji and
drafting key audit summaries. This hands-on exposure allowed
me to apply theoretical concepts in a structured, practical
context, while refining my attention to detail, analytical
capabilities, and professional demeanor.

Beyond skill development, the one-on-one mentorship

deepened my understanding of how precision, discipline, and
ethical responsibility underpin effective financial reporting and
auditing. I’m confident that this immersive experience has not
only strengthened my technical foundation but also shaped my
career aspirations. Moving forward, I am inspired to further
specialize in accounting and auditing, carrying forward the
insights, values, and confidence gained during this invaluable
internship.
