👉 One idea, one subject, one predicate.
Think: One full stop → one idea.
✅ Example:
I play cricket.
She is dancing.
The dog barked.
1. Simple Sentences
👉 A simple sentence has:
1 Subject (who/what the sentence is about)
1 Predicate (what is said about the subject)
1 complete idea
📌 Formula: Subject + Verb + Object (sometimes)
✅ Examples:
The boy runs.
I like mangoes.
She reads books every day.
We play in the park.
The sun shines brightly.
2. Compound Sentence
👉 Two equal ideas joined with joining words (and, but, or, so, yet, for, nor).
Think: Two simple sentences + connector.
✅ Example:
I play cricket and my friend plays football.
She is dancing but he is singing.
The sun set and the stars appeared.
2. Compound Sentences
👉 A compound sentence has:
2 or more independent ideas (each can stand alone)
Joined by coordinating conjunctions → and, but, or, so, yet, nor, for
📌 Formula: Simple Sentence + Connector + Simple Sentence
✅ Examples:
I like tea, and he likes coffee.
She worked hard, but she failed.
We can go to the park, or we can stay home.
He was hungry, so he ate pizza.
They were tired, yet they continued working.
3. Complex Sentence
👉 One main idea + one extra idea (dependent clause) joined with words like
because, when, if, although, since, unless, after, before, etc.
Think: Boss sentence + helper sentence.
✅ Example:
I play cricket because I love it.
She went home when the bell rang.
He passed the exam although he didn’t study much.
3. Complex Sentences
👉 A complex sentence has:
1 main idea (independent clause)
1 or more dependent ideas (dependent clauses)
Joined by subordinating conjunctions → because, since, when, after,
although, if, unless, before, while, until, though
📌 Formula: Main Clause + Subordinating Word + Dependent Clause
✅ Examples:
I stayed home because it was raining.
She cried when she lost her toy.
He passed although he didn’t study much.
We waited until the bus arrived.
You cannot succeed if you don’t work hard.
