WASTE WATER TREATMENT
PROCESS

8/25/2021 6
FLOW PROCESS

8/25/2021 7
PROCESS DESCRIPTION

 The waste water generated from Block 2, 3 & 4 will be treated in a new Waste
Water Treatment System. The waste water treatment system will be designed
to produce an effluent whose pH is not lower than 6.0 and not higher than 9.0.
 The quality of treated water will meet the requirements of “Peraturan Menteri
Negara Lingkungan Hidup Nomor 08 Tahun 2009 tentang Baku Mutu Air Limbah
bagi Usaha dan/atau Kegiatan Pembangkit ListrikTenagaTermal”
 The regular waste water will be agitated in the regular waste water pond
and the irregular waste water will be agitated in the unit neutralization pit
to make the water quality consistent.

8/25/2021 8
PROCESS DESCRIPTION

 It will be sent to the pH control and oxidation pit. After its pH value has been
adjusted to an optimum level for coagulation, the coagulant will be injected
into the waste water. Then, the waste water will be sent to the mixing pit
where coagulant aid is injected for flocculation process. The waste water will
be sent to coagulation - sedimentation tank where suspended solid is
removed.
 The clear water from the coagulation - sedimentation tank will be collected in
the clear water pit & then pumped into the filter. The water used for filter
washing is returned to the regular waste water pond and treated again.
 After pH value has been regulated in the neutralizing pit to permissible levels,
water will be discharged into the sea through the purified waste water pit.

8/25/2021 9
PROCESS DESCRIPTION

 If the pH value of the clear waste water does not meet the specified level,
discharge of waste water into the sea will be suspended and such water will be
returned to the waste water storage pond and treated again.
 The suspended solid removed in the coagulation - sedimentation tank will be
collected and concentrated in a sludge enrichment tank & will be sent to the
sludge storage pond to further enrich the sludge through natural
sedimentation. After undergoing this process, the suspended solids will be
disposed off by truck.
 The oily waste water comes from Transformer Area, STG Building Sump, and
HRSG Area Oily Sump, will be led to the new oil water separator located in
transformer yard area, where oil & clear water will be separated.

8/25/2021 10
PROCESS DESCRIPTION

 Clear water will be led to the nearest storm water drains by effluent pump and
oil will be transferred to the oil drum by oil discharge pump.
 The oily waste water from EDG Area Waste Water Sump and Auxiliary Boiler
Waste water sump will be treated in the oil separator located in WWTP area.
Clear water will be led to the nearest storm water drains by gravity, and oil will
be transferred to the oil drum by oil discharge pump.

8/25/2021 13
OPERATION REGULAR
AND IRREGULAR POND

 Agitating blower (00GNK86AA191/00GNK87AA191) will

supply air to this two pond.
 Regularly, operator shall do sampling on inlet irregular waste
water to check the COD concentration through laboratory
analysis.
PROCESS  In case of COD concentration on the irregular waste water
more than 300 mg/L, manually NaClO will be injected by
NaClO dosing pump (00GNN66AP001/00GNN67AP001) until
COD concentration less than 300 mg/L.
 In addition, unit neutralization pit pump can not be run if the
COD concentration more than 300 mg/L.
8/25/2021 14
OPERATION PH
CONTROL OXIDATION

 Waste water ussually is unstable in pH, before going to

another step, need to adjust pH. When low pH injection for
NaOH will come, and when high pH injection for HCl will
PROCESS
come.
 In pH control oxidation pit also use FeCl3 as coagulant and it
controlled by pump stroke dial.

8/25/2021 15
OPERATION COAGULATION
SEDIMENTATION

 Before process water going to Coagulation Sedimentation Pit

(00GND28BB001), it was injected by coagulant aid (A-
Polymer) in mixing pit (00GND27BB01).
 A-Polymer injection amount is controlled by pump stroke dial.
The injection purposed to maked a floc. “Floc making” is
PROCESS important adjustment target.
 If you cannot see a good floc (few mm size) at Coagulation
Sedimentation Pit, Coagulant or Polymer are not enough. As
another factor coagulation has proper pH range. It is changed
sometimes by incoming water ingredient condition. On this
condition, our target for pH range is around 6.5 - 7.
8/25/2021 16
OPERATION FILTER

 Filter system can remove big particle and decrease turbidity

 Filter system are in the category of rapid gravity filtration
where water level / head above of the media forced the water
to penetrate the filter media. Media used in the filter system is
sand (coarse and fine) and anthracite with a certain thickness
PROCESS
to optimize the screening process.
 Likes the other filters, in this process after running for certain
time the filter will be blockage (clogging) in the media so that
needs to be done backwashing process (backwash) to remove
dirt that clogged the filter media.
8/25/2021 17
OPERATION FILTER

 Filters system are designed to operate for for 23 hours

continuous service per day and regeneration sequence 1 time
per day.
 Sequence of regeneration such as: drain 8,5 minutes, air wash
for 10 minutes, backwash for 10 minutes, settling for 2
PROCESS
minutes and rinse for 5 minutes.
 After backwash, need to be done rinse (flushing) before the
unit back in operation. The purpose of this flushing is to
achieve a quality product from filter as expected before going
to the next unit.
8/25/2021 18
OPERATION MODE
FILTER

STOP Master Switch is OFF.

STANDBY Master Switch ON but conditions are not satisfied for service.

8/25/2021 19
OPERATION MODE
FILTER

Blow down vessel internal retention water because it has

possibility that it is being worse.
SERVICE BLOW
This step is omitted when system from stop before
service.

Treat water by filtration. By long time filtration,

SERVICE differential pressure becomes high by rubbish, floc
clogging. Backwash process is necessary periodically.

8/25/2021 20
OPERATION MODE
FILTER

Step Explanation
Drain 1 Reduce the water level into desired expanded media
height as per backwash design criteria
Drain 2 Reduce the water level into desired expanded media
height as per backwash design criteria, release the air
trapped inside the vessel and prepare the filter system
into the next process “Air Wash”
Air Wash This process will use Filter system Backwash Blower as
BACKWASH sole source for air during this step. The air will break the
clogged media filter so that it will be easy for removal
process of suspended solid from the body of media filter.
Backwash 1 Induce a low flow to Filter system media (counter current
flow) to fluidize bed since there are different type
(different SG value) of media used in one vessel.
8/25/2021 21
OPERATION MODE
FILTER

Step Explanation
Backwash 2 Induce a high flow to Filter system media to achieve
desired expanded height. Filter media other than gravel is
lifted up and light turbidity ingredient (rubbish, floc) in
filter media is washed away to external. Heavy clogging
causes drop to vessel bottom.
Settling Expanded filter media layer is settled down in this time.
BACKWASH Rinse As preparation for next “Service” step.
Heavy clogging causes drop to vessel bottom by
“Backwash”.
is washed away by downstream flow

8/25/2021 22
OPERATION
NEUTRALIZING

 pH of filtered water from filter is monitored on N-Pit. N-Pit is equipped with

pH controller, one (1x100%) agitator, level switch, and two (2x100%) N-Pit
pumps.
 pH monitoring and recording is done here and an alarm will be triggered
when pH out of range 6 – 9.
PROCESS  If targeted pH value cannot be reached, N-Pit pump will transfer the
treated water back to regular ww storage pond & unit neutralization pit.
 N-Pit pump will be operated in accordance with pH controller and water
level of the pit. The flow transmitter will be installed at the N-Pit pump
outlet. Any indication and recording there from will be made on the panel in
the waste water treatment equipment control room.
8/25/2021 23
OPERATION OILY
WASTE TREATMENT

The oily waste water comes from Transformer Area, STG Building Sump, and
HRSG Area Oily Sump, will be led to the new oil water separator located in
transformer yard area, where oil & clear water will be separated.
Clear water will be led to the nearest storm water drains by effluent pump and
oil will be transferred to the oil drum by oil discharge pump.
PROCESS
The oily waste water from EDG Area Waste Water Sump and Auxiliary Boiler
Waste water sump will be treated in the oil separator located in WWTP area.
Clear water will be led to the nearest storm water drains by gravity, and oil will
be transferred to the oil drum by oil discharge pump.
