Assignment Number: 1
STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF FOURS PER ODI INNINGS
Player: Gautam Gambhir
Name: Anuj Rathore
Roll no. :24/EC/040
Objective - The objective of this assignment is to perform
a statistical analysis on the number of fours scored per
innings by the cricketer Gautam Gambhir. This involves
calculating key descriptive statistics, constructing frequency
and probability distributions, and plotting the Cumulative
Distribution Function (CDF) to model the underlying patterns
in the dataset.

Key Statistical Insights :
Most likely Outcome = 4 fours per innings (21.2%
probability)
Optimal Range = 3-5 fours per innings cover 56.2% of all
performances .
Consistent Performance = 80.7% of innings fall within 2-
6 range .
Exceptional Performance = 7+fours per innings occurs
only 9.7% of the time .
Boundary Reliability = only 3.5% chance of failing to hit
any boundary .
Conclusion
This report provides a clear, data-driven profile of Gautam
Gambhir's batting style. The conclusion drawn from the
analysis is that his performance, while averaging an aggressive
4.36 fours per innings, was more variable than a standard
probability model would predict. The most important insight
is that his boundary-hitting is better described by a Negative
Binomial distribution than a Poisson distribution. This project
successfully demonstrates how fundamental concepts of
probability and statistics can be used to move beyond surface-
level averages and gain a deeper, quantitative understanding
of a professional athlete's patterns and tendencies.
