SOCIAL ISSUES
1. Teenage Pregnancy – Davao Oriental has the highest incidence of teenage pregnancy. Statistics
shows that the continuing growth of teenage pregnancy within Davao is very alarming and
needed to be considered and take action. This issue is also one of the issues that needs attention
and solution
2. Snatching -current situation in the community, is the spreading incidents about snatching.
Victims and neighborhood were worried of their family’s safety specially during night time.
Students and workers are asking for tighter security and supervisions.
3. Illegal use of drugs – the use of illegal drugs in the community is one of the major problems that
needs to be solve right away to avoid incident that related to this like for example rape, riot,
hold-ups and many possible incident that is related to this.
HOW TO ADDRESS THE SAID PROBLEM TO THE GOVERNMENT
1. Teenage Pregnancy – Addressing teenage pregnancy to the government requires data collection.
Gathering data of teenage pregnancy in the community and providing evidence of the said issue.
Doing interview to those teenage mother and the impact of teenage pregnancy on individuals
and communities. Government should do more and give more attention to the teenagers in the
community to solve this problem.
2. Snatching - The spreading of news about snatching is very alarming to those people who lived in
the community. Addressing the issue of snatching requires a combination of measures involving
law enforcement, community engagement, public awareness and preventive strategies
3. Illegal use of drugs – The use of illegal drugs in the community is one of the big problem in the
community nowadays. Addressing illegal use od drugs in a community requires collaboration,
resources, and a commitment from various stakeholders. We have to implement a holistic
approach that combines prevention, treatment, enforcement , and community engagement,
communities can work towards reducing drug use, supporting those affected by addiction and
creating safer and healthier environment for all resident.
SUGGESTIONS/ RECOMMENDATION TO THE GOVERNMENT TO SOLVE THE SAID PROBLEM
1. Teenage pregnancy
•Promote Comprehensive Sex Education – Comprehensive sex education in schools,
covering topics such as contraception, healthy relationships, and consent. Also,
programs to empower young people with life skills, education, and
employment opportunities to reduce vulnerability.
• Raise Awareness – Conduct public awareness campaigns to reduce
the stigma associated with teenage pregnancy. Promote positive messaging
around responsible decision-making, healthy relationships, and the importance of
seeking support when needed.
• Support Programs for Vulnerable Youth – These programs could include mentoring,
counseling, access to healthcare, and opportunities for skill-building and education.
2. Snatching
•Increase / Strengthen Law Enforcement- increase Patrols, Deploy more police officers
and patrols in areas prone to snatching incidents, especially during peak times. Installing
CCTV cameras and surveillance systems to monitor public spaces and gather evidence
for investigations.
• Public Awareness and Education- Launch public awareness campaigns to educate the
community about the dangers of snatching, how to avoid becoming a victim, and what
to do in case of an incident.
• Empower Community Vigilance – Encourage the establishment of neighborhood watch
programs where residents can work together to monitor suspicious activities and report
them to authorities.
4. Illegal use of drugs
• Prevention and Education- Implement evidence-based drug prevention programs in schools
that educate students about the risks associated with drug use and promote healthy lifestyles.
• Community Awareness Campaign – Develop and implement public awareness campaigns to
educate community members about the dangers of illegal drugs, signs of drug use, and available
resources for help.
• Law Enforcement and Legal measures – Work with law enforcement agencies to target drug
trafficking networks, distribution points, and high-crime areas where drug activity is prevalent.
Implement community policing strategies that build trust between law enforcement and
community members, encouraging reporting of drug-related activities.
