Do you think that advertising encourages people to buy things that
they don’t want?
In today’s digital world it is really becoming popular that
companies are using manipulative advertising techniques that help
to encourage people to purchase products which consumers are
not required to buy. The era of competitive business broke the
balance of purchasing goods and affects people negatively when it
comes to customers choosing products wisely.
One major impact of advertising is to mislead the ideas of
consumers. In other words, advertising makes people believe that
their life will be better with new products. For instance, TV ads
include exciting products such as fast food, medicines or expensive
items which extensively penetrate the markets. Although
advertising uses tactics such as showing products which are the
most attractive among people, some TV channels have
sponsorship with products such as cigarettes or drugs. Nowadays
these products are selling less because of restrictions by the
government on the companies.
On the other hand, advertising has some benefits as the ads
provide support in making important decisions. In simpler terms,
for some people it is essential to watch or search for products
through advertising on TV or in newspapers. Recent research
shows that it is the daily routine for elderly consumers to watch
and purchase products through ads. Most people believe that
without the power of advertising, consumers will be stuck with a
brand which may not offer the best option.
In conclusion, even though advertising has some negative
influence by making people take wrong decisions through
providing misleading ideas, I believe that advertising causes
consumers to buy things which they do not want. However, to
keep moderation is the key to choosing the right advertisement.
