The ASTM Digital Library provides two

flexible ways to search for content:

1
Search Bar with Type-Ahead
Located at the top of every page, the search
bar features a type-ahead function that
automatically suggests relevant terms as you
type, enabling you to quickly find topics, terms,
and documents across all content types.

2
Search Refinement Menu
For more targeted results, users can use
search refinements on the search results
landing page to refine their query by DOI,
ISBN, Format, Journal, Article Type, Book
Series, and much more. This tool is perfect
for users who know exactly what they want
or wish to filter results using specific criteria.
We’ll walk through the search in more detail in
the sections that follow.

S EARCH BAR
The search bar located at the top of the page
offers a dynamic type-ahead search function
to help users quickly find relevant content:

– For example, begin typing a keyword

(e.g., “Petr”) into the search bar at the top
of the page.
– As you type, a drop-down list of
suggested terms will automatically appear.
These suggestions are based on commonly
searched or indexed terms in the
Digital Library.
– The list updates with each keystroke,
refining suggestions to better match
your input.
– Click on any suggestion to instantly launch
a search for that term across your selected
content type.

S EARCH R E F INE M E NT M E N U
The Refinements menu, found on the left
side of the search results page, allows you
to refine your query by targeting specific
fields within the metadata. This assists users
in locating relevant content more precisely,
particularly when searching for known items
or specific attributes.
The Filter dropdown at the top of the
refinement menu offers a wide range of
targeted search options, allowing users to
narrow results by specific fields such as Title,
Author, Author Affiliations, Full Text, Abstract,
Keyword, DOI, ISBN, ISSN, Volume, Issue,
and References, among others. This helps
refine search precision and improves
content discovery.
