What is a paragraph?
Is a unit of writing that expresses a specific topic. most paragraph to be
considered sufficient or effective should provide the essential information, so
people should not be left wanting for more information.

In development of essay a well-developed paragraph should contain the

following.

- Topic sentence
- Supporting sentence
- Concluding sentence
 Types of Paragraphs

Narrative paragraph
Expository paragraph
Persuasive paragraph
Descriptive paragraph
Effective paragraph writing or structure
usually, paragraphs are composed of 5-7 sentences and don’t require much
preparation as they do not give out much detail. However , it is important to take
into account its structure to make it effective.

❖ The Topic sentence: The topic sentence contains the topic and an opinion, or a
controling idea. For example:
❖ A nutricious diet is one way of maintaining good health.

Supporting sentences :

Closing sentence:

❖ Include the keypoints of your paragraph.
❖ Are also called concluding sentences.

Descriptive paragraph
Definition:

It is a engaging and extensively detailed record of a particular subject. It can be a person, an

event, a place or an object. Paragraphs crafted in this style cover descriptions, opinions,
comparisons, sensory as well as personal perceptions about the chosen subject.

Steps
1. Begins your paragraph with a familiar topic sentence that introduces the person.
2. Grasps and retain the attention of your reader.
3. Concentrates on details about the person’s personality.
4. Completes any minimal details to give a good general picture
