ABSTRACT
This report delves into the application of Visual Cryptography (VC) as a method for
safeguarding biometric systems. Biometric technologies, commonly used for secure
authentication, encounter significant challenges in maintaining privacy and protecting
sensitive data. This study proposes a framework that integrates cutting-edge cryptographic
techniques, including Homomorphic Encryption (HE), Multi-Party Computation (MPC) and
an optimized form of Expansion-Free Visual Cryptography (EFVC). These innovations
address pressing issues such as data breaches, inefficiencies in computation, and image
quality degradation, thereby enhancing the security of biometric identifiers like facial
images and fingerprints.
The study emphasizes how VC divides biometric data into multiple shares, ensuring
that individual shares contain no usable information. This approach minimizes risks
associated with centralized storage solutions. By incorporating neural network architectures
like Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), the system achieves high accuracy in feature
extraction while maintaining data privacy. Comprehensive testing, including performance
and security evaluations, confirms the feasibility of the proposed methods for practical use
in domains such as healthcare, online banking, and secure authentication systems.
The results demonstrate the practicality of these methods in real-world scenarios,
including mobile authentication, healthcare, and financial systems. By adhering to data
protection regulations like GDPR and HIPAA, the study ensures compliance and user trust.
This research paves the way for secure, efficient, and scalable biometric systems, with future
directions focusing on advanced modalities, quantum-resistant cryptographic standards and
broader applications across sectors.
