WAVE OPTICS
22.01.25/S-I/Q:31

R1. Assertion: In Young’s double slit experiment the two slits are at distance d apart. Interference
pattern is observed on a screen at distance D from the slits. At a point on the screen when it is
directly opposite to one of the slits, a dark fringe is observed. Then, the wavelength of wave is
proportional to square of distance of two slits.

Reason: For a dark fringe intensity is zero.

2) If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion
3) If assertion is true but reason is false
4) If assertion is false but reason is true.
Key: 2

fringes.

Reason: In Young’s double slit experiment the fringes are performed with a source of white light,
then only black and bright fringes are observed.

2) If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion
3) If assertion is true but reason is false
4) If the assertion and reason both are false.

Key: 4

Sol: In Young’s experiments fringe width for dark and white fringes are same while in young’s
double slit central fringe is white around which few coloured fringes are observed on either side.
