Jaishankar, as India’s External Affairs Minister, has emphasized that caste-


based reservation is a constitutional mandate that serves to address historic
social and economic disparities. In his statements, he defends the principle of
affirmative action embedded in India's Constitution.

Opposition to Faith-Based Reservations: While discussing the idea of


revisiting reservations, Jaishankar has rejected the notion of faith-based
reservations. He believes this could further fragment India’s social fabric.

Sustaining Existing Framework: The Indian government, as represented by


Jaishankar, has consistently supported reservations for Scheduled Castes (SC),
Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs). The current
framework, in his view, is necessary to correct historical injustices and foster
inclusivity.

While we acknowledge that caste-based reservations may be a contentious issue


for some, it is critical to understand their constitutional necessity. These
reservations were not only a social and legal measure but a means to rectify
historical inequities and provide the disadvantaged sections of society with equal
access to resources and opportunities.
