Creating presentations using OpenOffice's Impress

Impress is the free presentation software available with the OpenOffice suite.
OpenOffice Impress presentations allow users to create professional presentations with
user-friendly software. It only takes a few minutes and a little instruction before you are
making impressive presentations for work or fun. Read on to learn how to make a
presentation in OpenOffice Impress.

Step1: Open Impress from the Start menu at the bottom left corner of your computer's
desktop.

Step2: Pick what type of presentation you want to work on from the window that pops
up. Choose from a template, empty presentation or open an existing presentation. Once
you have picked your presentation, click "Next."

Step3: Design your slides. Pick from the pre-designed menu or custom design your
slides if you want your own slide colors and designs. Click "Next" and design the slides
using the tools from the design tool bar.
Step4: Select slide transitions. Slide transitions are the animations that bring slides on
and off the screen. Click on a transition from the Transition pull-down menu. It shows a
preview of the transition you have chosen. Pick the length of time your slide is shown
and whether the transition is automatic or activated by your clicking the screen.

Step5: Click on "Create." This opens the work area.

Step6: Pick each slide you want in the presentation and put them in the work area. Add
text, pictures, graphs, sounds or animations. Click "Insert" to add elements to the
presentation. Design and add transitions to your slides if you need to.
Step7: Preview your presentation by selecting "View" from the Slide show menu.

Step8: Save your work by clicking "Save" from the options in the drop down File menu.
