Chosen Cancer: Lung Cancer
Lung cancer is a type of cancer that starts when abnormal cells
grow in an uncontroled way in the lungs. It is a serious heath
issue that can cause severe harm and death.
Tobacco smoke is the leading cause of lung cancer.
Symptoms of lung cancer include a cough that does not go away,
chest pain and shortness of breath.
It is important to sek medical care early to avoid serious heath
effects. Treatments depend on the person’s medical history and
the stage of the disease
Description and Effects of Lunge cancer
Aspect Details
Body Impact issues Tumors block airways: difficult to
breath, may cough, lead to liver
problems.
Cellular Problems DNA mutations cause uncontrolled cell
division in lungs
Fatality Respiratory
Fails, organ damage/pneumonia
During my research, I discovered multiple known causes of Lung
Cancer.
Primary: Tobacco smokng
Environmental: asbestos, air pollution, radiation.
Genetic: Family history; mutations in genes.
Symptoms & Diagnosis are as follows:
1. Early Warning: Chronic cough, chest pain, hoarseness,
unexplained weight loss.
2. Advanced Signs: Bone pain, headaches, coughing blood.
Some Diagnostic Technology used in most cases are as follows:
Low-dose CT scan.
Biopsy + PET/MRI scans (confirm spread).
Sputum cytology (analyze coughed mucus).
Treatment Trade-offs/Side Effects Prognosis
Surgery Risk: Infection, reduced 60-70% 5-year
lung function. survival
Imunotherapy Fewer side effects; costly Improves survival by
3-6 months
Targeted Therapy Skin rash, diarrhea; Better response if
works only for specific mutation present
mutations
Prevention
Avoid tobacco (primary prevention).
Radon testing if suspected in homes.
Occupational safety: Limit asbestos/diesel exhaust
exposure.
Screening: Annual CT scans for smokers.
Thank you.
