1.0 SCOPE / OBJECTIVES

This Method Statement covers the installation of Lightning Protection System.


This procedure is to define the method used to ensure that Lightning Protection
System has been installed as per the contract requirement.

2.0REFERENCES

2.1 Particular General Package Scope of Work section 1105/SP/E-16005 of


specification.
2.2 Particular Earthing (Grounding) section 1105/SP/E-16450 of specification.
2.3 Particular Lightning Protection section 1105/SP/E-16670 of specification.

3.0ACCESS / EGRESS

Work will be carried out only when all associated works of main contractor been
verified that they have been completed.

4.0 HEALTH AND SAFETY HAZARDS.

Health and Safety procedure by Main Contractor and by A&P will be


implemented for this job. The responsible safety officer as per A&P procedure
will do a routine safety inspection.

a. Safety Lighting.

Safety lights will be used in case of power failure ensuring the good illumination
of the working area to aid evacuation if necessary. To be provided by A&P.

b. Task Lighting.

Adequate lighting will be provided ensuring the good illumination of the working
area. The task lighting will get power supply from the nearest power socket
(provided by Main Contractor) which should be protected by relevant RCD.

c. Emergency Arrangements.

 General: Site general safety procedures will be followed. In case of


emergency the safety officer/foreman will stop the work, he will

administer the emergency arrangements and he will report to


assembly points as described during Site Induction Course.

 Fire Precautions: No significant fire risks associated with this activity but
general fire precaution measures will be taken as per
Arabtec instructions to A&P.

 Communication: Communication from site areas to Site Office via mobile


phones issued to senior foremen. In emergency
situations the users of handheld 2-way radios to be
notified if deemed that this can speed up notification of
relevant personnel and/or the JBR01 Site Clinic.

d. Risk and Controls.

 Environmental Considerations: After the finalization of the works the


working area should be cleaned from any scrap materials in a daily bases
related to the performed work.

6.0 RESPONSIBILITIES / SUPERVISION

6.1 Project Manager – will have the overall responsibility of the Project for
execution, quality and safety. Also he will maintain the planning progress
and coordination of works with main contractor.

6.2 Project Senior Electrical Engineer / Site Electrical Engineer – will be


responsible for the day to day activities on site, for materials, drawings,
testing & commissioning. The Project Senior Electrical Engineer will
report to the Project Manager.

6.3 Supervisor – will be directly responsible for the day-to-day job on site, for
handling the technicians or any other staff assign to his area.

6.4 Safety Officer – will be responsible for the Health and Safety aspects on
site as per the Mains Contractor and A&P Safety requirements.

6.5 QA/QC Department – will be oversee all quality requirements and quality
control measures for the Project in coordination with the Senior Electrical
Engineer as outlined in the A&P QA Manual.

7.0 PROCEDURES / METHOD TO BE EMPLOYED.

7.1 Prepare and submit shop drawings for approval.

7.2 Submit calibration certificates for the tester to be used.

7.3 Prepare and submit required materials for approval as per section
1105/SP/E-16670 of specification.

7.4 Procure and deliver approved materials.

7.5 Offer materials for inspection to ATC/HYDER. Proceed if approved.

7.6 Inspection and testing (continuity) of welded rebars riser.

7.7 Inspection and testing (continuity) of welded columns and floor slab.

7.8 Mark the welded rebars by red paint all the way to the roof (by main
contractor)

7.9 Provide denso tape to clamp/rebar at connection point.

7.10 Layout routes of roof conductor tapes.

7.11 Mark on the roof the positions of saddles at intervals not exceeding 1.0m.

7.12 Drill and secure in place the base of the approved saddles.

7.13 Bond four hole earth points to reinforced bars of the structure columns at
pre designated points by using clamps.

7.14 Carefully unroll copper tape roof conductor.

7.15 Position in place the copper tape roof conductor and secure it on the
saddles and on the four holes earth points.

7.16 At level No 5 – basement, at the reinforcing bars of pre designated


columns, bond by using approved clamps 70mm2 pvc covered cable,
which ends is connected to four-hole earth point. The 70mm2 pvc covered
cable to be factory cad welded on the four-hole earth point or to be cad
welded on site. See below further description of cad welding process.

7.17 Identify positions to be cad welded.

7.18 Person who will perform the cad weld should take all necessary safety
precautions, such as to wear safety glasses and protective gloves.

7.19 Clean conductors that will be cad welded.

7.20 Position cleaned conductors in mould after making sure mould is dry, by
pre-heating.

7.21 Place metal disc in bottom of mould crucible.

7.22 Pour powder in to crucible, spreading some starting powder on mould


edge.

7.23 Close lid and ignite with flint gun from the side, firing spark onto starting
powder.

7.24 Reaction should take place safely inside the mould. Once the joint is
finished the joint should be cleaned using a mould scraper and brush.

7.25 Measure grounding system resistance as per test form 1.3.02.TS01

8.0 TRAINING

8.1 Tradesmen performing the describe work will be experienced electricians.


If deemed necessary specific team/individuals will undergo further
training and awareness programs for this activity by the production /
Quality Assurance Departments.

8.2 Toolbox talks will provide general training and awareness for each activity
and also in Health & Safety matters and precautions.

9.0 WORKING HOURS

Normal working hours: 7.00 a.m to 5.00 pm

10.0 HOUSE KEEPING

A&P personnel will clear work areas of scrap materials derived from their work
on a daily basis ensuring a clean and healthy work environment and also to
maintained free access and egress in the event of an emergency.

11.0 MANPOWER REQUIREMENT & SUPERVISION

Saddle fixing requires minimum one tradesman. Copper tape positioning and
fixing requires a minimum one tradesman and one laborer.

12.0 MATERIAL REQUIREMENT

Materials requirements for this activity are: Copper tape, saddles, screws, raw-
plugs.

13.0 PLANT & EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS

hack saw

should wear at all time safety shoes, helmet and
coverall.
d. Power: Single-phase normal power where it is
