work on bacteria helped people understand disease better. New technology such as piped
water, x-rays, and better microscopes, made it easier to prevent and treat illness. Karl
Landsteiner’s discovery of blood groups made blood transfusions safer, and Paul Ehrlich
created the first chemical cure for a disease with Salvarsan 606. Marie Curie’s work on
