TECH PACK: A tech pack is an informative sheet that designers create to communicate
with a manufacturer all the necessary components needed to construct a product.
Typically, designers will include measurements, materials, colors, trim, hardware,
grading, labels, tags, etc.
SPEC SHEET: A garment specification (spec) sheet, or measurement table, is a
technical document that contains all construction details of the garment. It looks
like a technical diagram or a sketch of a garment, including all of its measurements.
Designers to communicate design concepts to manufacturers use spec sheets.
PO SHEET::Purchase order is a written document that includes specification of
product, Product Price , Total order quantity, size break-up, packing instruction and
shipping address etc. Purchase Order is known as PO.
SIZE RATIO: If given packing size ratio is M: L: XL = 2:2:1, it means you need to pack 2
medium sizes, 2 large sizes and 1 extra-large size of garments together. Ratio packing helps
buyers in the distribution of the garment in different retail stores .
What is pattern : Pattern is a hard paper on which different component of garments of a
particular style are sketched according to the measurement of the garments.
Grading:
Grading a procedure of either increasing or decreasing the size of the sample
pattern. The process of making a sample size pattern larger or smaller to
make up a complete size range.
WHAT IS MARKER : A marker is a diagram of a precise arrangement of pattern pieces
for sizes of a specific style that are to be cut from in one spread.
Costing :
In fashion manufacturing, costing means the process of estimating and then
determining the total cost of producing a garment or item. It generally includes
raw material cost, construction of the garment, trims, packaging, shipping and
operating expenses and labor, among others
COST OF MAKING (CM): CM cost or Cost of Making garments indicates the sewing
line cost of each garment
Shipment : Shipment for this call when any goods transport for movement
actual destination by any transport mode which called shipment.
. Consumption: : In the apparel business, consumption means the quality of raw
materials with a view to MAKE a price of garment. In order to calculate the quantity
of how much fabric, sewing thread, zipper, button, and other accessories are required to
produce a garment up to the exporting is called consumption.
LEAD TIME: In apparel industry, lead time is the total amount of time required for
completing a product beginning from the date of receiving the order to the shipment of
the goods to customer. Time is a great issue in apparel trade as orders are based on weather,
seasons and occasions.
PACKING LIST : A packing list itemizes the contents of each package (box, pallets, etc). It
includes weights, measurements and detailed lists of the goods in each package. The packing
list should be included in carton or package, and can be attached to the outside of a package
with a copy inside.

GSM: GSM stands for grams per square metre, which refers to the weight of a fabric. In
general, the higher a fabric's GSM, the thicker and more hard-wearing it's likely to be. For
example, denim has a much higher GSM than chiffon
TRIMSCARD: A trim card is used to show approved trims by attaching all garment trims
and accessories on the trim card. In the production floor, supervisors used to follow the trim
card as a guide for identifying the right trims. The trim card is made of white paper which is little
thicker than the normal A4 printing paper.
STRIKE OFF: A strike off is a sample of fabric that has been printed to your requirements, so that you
can check to see if you're happy with it before agreeing for the full order to be printed.( Mock up)
Dyeing : Dyeing is processes employed in the conversion of raw textile fibres into
finished goods that add much to the appearance of textile fabrics.
TEST : In garment manufacturing, testing means the required quality of the product which
can satisfy buyers' as well as consumers' needs. Global quality standards of apparel are
technology driven, benchmarked by the buyers and ultimately product oriented.
LAB DIP/ yarn dip : A lab dip is a dyed fabric sample made to meet the color standards of a
designer. It is generally developed by a dye house or a color lab. The purpose of a lab dip is to
give a designer an idea of what the fabric color will look like for manufacturing.
SHRIANKAGE :Fabric shrinkage is simply the extent to which a piece of
fabric changes in length or width during the laundry proces s.
COMMENTS :: a verbal or written remark expressing an opinion or reaction.

Base Fabric:
Basic fabric is grey fabric. Fabric is the main raw material of garments
because major parts of garments are fabric. Initially this fabric is get used for
sampling.

During making garments some extra measurement is added with actual body measurement,
which is known as allowance. For example, if the actual body measurement is 80cm, then it’s
counted as 84cm during pattern making. Here allowance is 4cm

Air Way Will is an export document .the carrying agreement between exporter
/shipper and air carrier which is obtained from the airline used to ship the
goods. It’s a receipt of goods received given by airlines.

Pre Production Meeting in Apparel Industry
A pre-production meeting is known as PP meeting in the Garments or Apparel
industry. In a pre-production meeting discussion of every important issue related
to bulk production is done, so that respected parties can ensure successful
shipment of ordered goods.
PP meeting achieves following things in short:

▪ Misunderstanding on product or any other issue can be clarified.
▪ Critical path is communicated and explained.

What Is a Letter of Credit (LC)?
A letter of credit, or a credit letter, is a letter from a bank guaranteeing that a
buyer’s payment to a seller will be received on time and for the correct
amount. If the buyer is unable to make a payment on the purchase, the bank
will be required to cover the full or remaining amount of the purchase.
What is Master L/C
When an L/C is opened to import goods directly from the exporter is called a master letter of
credit. The buyer (Buyer’s bank) issues this L/C to the manufacturer. Master LC has a
higher financial value than back-to-back L/C.
What is Back to Back L/C:
When an L/C is prepared by the manufacturer to collect raw materials for production from
the suppliers is called Back to Back L/C. Back to Back letter of credit has a 70-80% financial
value of master LCs.
What is a sales contract?
A sales contract is a legally binding document between a buyer and
seller. The document includes the details of the exchange, the terms
of sale, clear product or service descriptions and more. A good sales
contract should leave no doubt in either party’s mind about their rights
and obligations during a transaction.
8. Telegraphic Transfer (TT)
Also known as a wire transfer, the telegraphic transfer is a common way to get
paid when exporting internationally.
INVOICE :An invoice is a time-stamped commercial document that itemizes
and records a transaction between a buyer and a seller. If goods or services
were purchased on credit, the invoice usually specifies the terms of the deal
and provides information on the available methods of payment.
PI :
A pro forma invoice is a preliminary bill of sale sent to buyers in advance of a shipment or
delivery of goods
BUSINESS TERMS :
FOB: FOB is the abbreviation of Free On Board. In the context of garment
manufacturing industry, FOB means the price for the garment. This price includes the
following components: fabrics, trims, accessories, cost of labor and profit from A to Z.
When a garment manufacturer quotes an FOB price, you have to ask the question
about FOB port. It is very important because the price you pay is only up-to-the-port
price
DDP: Delivered duty paid (DDP) is a delivery agreement whereby
the seller assumes all of the responsibility, risk, and costs associated with
transporting goods until the buyer receives or transfers them at the
destination port
LDP: Landed Duty Paid (LDP) is the final price that a brand or retailer pays for the
goods that are being imported cross border.
CIF: Cost, insurance, and freight (CIF) is an international shipping
agreement, which represents the charges paid by a seller to cover the costs,
insurance, and freight of a buyer's order while the cargo is in transit. Cost,
insurance, and freight only applies to goods transported via a waterway, sea,
or ocean.
CNF: CNF refers to cost and freight. This is a common type of shipping agreement
where the seller will pay for delivering the goods to the port closest to the buyer
