Topics
1. Chapter 1 (~13 minutes, 2 video lessons)
This chapter is an introducon to Civil3D environment and the project overview. Throughout this
chapter, you will learn about the following features which assist us with control and management
of our project.
• Ribbons, tabs, toolbars, select/deselect, pan, orbit,
• viewports, visual styles, layers, and coordinates
2. Chapter 2 (~2 hours, 8 video lessons)
In this chapter you will learn about common 2D & 3D CAD tools used for 3D modeling of solids and
based on that, we are going to model the components of an arch bridge using the following tools:
• Line, polyline, arc, 3D polyline, centerline, circle, rectangle, copy, paste to original coordinates
• Move, 3D move, rotate, 3D rotate, mirror, 3D mirror, trim, join,
• Extrude, sweep, lo,Shell, rule-surf, plane-surf, Subtract, union, interfere, intersect
• Annotate ,add labels, line and curve, slope or grade.
• Extrude needed closed poly line, then center the object.
• Loft needed 2 section and path and then make shell (opening)
• Slice needed cutting edge , also can find it from plan surface or from lines rule surf and then
convert mesh to surface. Revolve 360 about axis.
3. Chapter 3 (~7.5 hours, 37 video lessons)
You are going to learn how to prepare the exisng ground in two different ways as the first step
using following tools and commands:
• Point creaon tool (Manual, Automac, Import, Along polyline/contour)
• Eding visual style of points in 2D and 3D modes
• Surface creaon tool (from points & contours)
• Eding visual style of the surface in 2D and 3D
• Surface definion edit, borders, and break-lines
At the seconds step, you will learn how to create gradings based on generated ground surface from
the previous step with ulizing following tools:
• Creang 3D feature-lines from 2D objects
• Creang different types of grading
• Creang surfaces from gradings and eding them in 3D
• Calculang cut & fill volumes with comparison surfaces derived from gradings
4. Chapter 4 (~4 hours, 24 video lessons)
As the final chapter, you are going to learn about creang a basic linear alignment and longitudinal
profile, custom sub-assemblies with subassembly composer, creang and modifying a compound
corridor in addion to basic visual analysis with the help of following tools:
• Alignment, profile and profile-view creaon tools, eding style, eding properes
• Assembly, sub-assembly composer, sub-assembly paletes
• Corridor, eding corridor properes
• Lighng, drive, environment sengs

✅ 1️⃣ Deck
Carries vertical loads (traffic, pedestrians, etc.)
Transfers these loads down to the girders or directly to the piers through the bearings.
Horizontal loads (wind, braking forces) can also act along the deck, transmitted to the bearings and then to
substructure.
✅ 2️⃣ Bearings
Receive loads from the deck
Transfer vertical loads straight downward to the pier or abutment
Allow small horizontal movements (expansion/contraction of deck)
Resist limited horizontal shear forces
✅ 3️⃣ Girders/Arch/Superstructure
Carry vertical loads from the deck
Distribute these loads toward the bearings
Arch structures carry load in compression along the curve, pushing outward onto the abutments
✅ 4️⃣ Piers
Receive loads from the bearings (so vertical from deck + any horizontal from wind or earthquake)
Transfer them vertically downward to their foundations
Also resist lateral loads from water flow, wind, or seismic movement
✅ 5️⃣ Abutments
Support the deck ends
Take vertical loads at the ends
Resist horizontal thrust from the arch if present
Transfer these loads to the soil or rock below
✅ 6️⃣ Foundations (under piers and abutments)
Receive all loads coming from above
Spread these loads to the ground
Safely distribute both vertical and horizontal loads to avoid settlement or failure
