"Okay class, let’s talk about Dance.
Yung
TikTok? Yung prom? O yung Zumba ng nanay niyo? 😅
Basically, dance is a series of movements that follow the rhythm of music.
Pero hindi lang siya basta galaw-galaw — kasi dance is also a form of creative
self-expression.
kundi pati emotions at kwento mo.
steps, diba? O sino dito guilty na gumagalaw-galaw pag naririnig yung favorite
song nila? 🙋♂️🙋♀️
That’s already dance.
Ang maganda pa, dance has no fixed rules.
yan.
Kaya andami ring forms of dance: ballet, hip-hop, folk, ballroom,
contemporary, at syempre... TikTok dances. Yes, kahit yan art form pa rin!
👉 Example: sa ballet, structured at precise — may pirouette, arabesque, lahat
graceful.
Sa hip-hop, freestyle, labas creativity mo.
Sa folk dances, may cultural meaning.
Like yung Tinikling, na nagre-represent ng coordination at teamwork.
So in short, dance is both art and freedom. Art kasi may aesthetic value,
freedom kasi walang tama o maling way to dance. Ang pinaka-importante is yung
meaning and expression ng dancer.
Now, let’s go to the Types of Dance, at unahin natin yung Traditional Dance.
So ano ba siya? Traditional dances are those that reflect the life, culture, and
traditions of a community or region.
👉 Example, sa Pilipinas:
Tinikling – pinaka-iconic, yung may bamboo poles.
Cariñosa – sweet, courtship dance.
Pandanggo sa Ilaw – yung may dalang ilaw sa kamay.
Maglalatik – from Laguna, naka-coconut shells sa katawan.
Ngayon, zoom in tayo sa Tinikling.
Sino dito nakapanood na ng Tinikling? Or nakasayaw na? (hintayin audience
reaction)
Literary reviews describe it as one of the oldest traditional dances in the
Pero more than just movements, scholars say na Tinikling is a reflection of
Filipino resilience and adaptability.
Parang sa life — kahit may challenges (symbolized by the bamboo poles na
makasayaw through it.
That’s why Tinikling is not just a dance, it’s also cultural preservation and
communal participation. Lagi mo siyang makikita sa town fiestas, national events,
at paulit-ulit naipapasa through practice and tradition.
So in short, Tinikling is one of the best examples of traditional dance, kasi it
shows both artistic beauty and the cultural story ng mga Pilipino."

“Okay class, next naman tayo — Social or Ballroom Dance.
So ano ba ‘to? Basically, these are partner dances na puwedeng i-enjoy
either socially (like sa parties, gatherings) or competitively (as in legit dance
sport).
Ang focus niya: control, rhythm, grace, and teamwork.
👉 Example: The Waltz. Super classic. Sino dito naka-imagine na ng
ballroom scene sa movies? Yung naka-gown yung babae, tuxedo yung lalaki, tapos
umiikot sila sa dance floor? 💃🕺 That’s the Waltz!
It originated pa noong 16th-century Europe, lalo na sa Austria at Germany.
Pero eto yung nakakatuwa — noong una, the Waltz was actually considered
scandalous!
Question: bakit kaya? (hintayin sagot ng audience)
Kasi super close-contact siya. Imagine mo dati, sobrang conservative ng
society tapos biglang may sayaw na hawak-hawak yung partner mo, tapos paikot-
ikot kayo. Nakakagulat yun for their standards.
Pero as time passed, nagbago ang image ng Waltz.
👉 Literary reviews describe it as a symbol of romance and elegance.
Lagi na siyang associated with sophistication, courtship, and harmony.
Kaya sa mga novels, plays, or even films, the Waltz is usually the dance of
intimacy and refinement. Parang kapag nag-Waltz yung characters, yun yung
signal na may romantic connection.
So in short, Ballroom — lalo na yung Waltz — naging cultural symbol ng
Western ideals like love, grace, and social class.
Kaya hanggang ngayon, when you say “ballroom,” ang una agad naiisip ng
tao: Waltz.”
Next: Contemporary Dance.
So what makes it different? Contemporary is basically a fusion — may halo
ng ballet, modern, and lyrical dance. Pero ang pinaka-focus niya ay storytelling
and emotion.
Parang nanonood ka ng play or poem, pero instead of words, gumagalaw
yung katawan.
👉 Famous example: Alvin Ailey’s Revelations (1960).
Critics actually call it one of the greatest works in contemporary dance.
Ano yung inspiration niya? Yung childhood memories ni Alvin Ailey —
attending church services, listening to spirituals, at yung whole African-American
experience.
Kaya yung performance, puno ng themes like suffering, resilience, faith, and
joy.
Parang bawat section ng dance piece, nagsasabi ng story.
It mirrors the struggles of African-Americans laban sa oppression, pero
pinapakita rin yung spiritual hope for freedom.
So kung iisipin mo, Revelations is more than just dance — it’s like a cultural
and historical text in motion.
👉 Instead of poetry lines, yung katawan at movement ang nagde-deliver ng
story.
At dahil gumamit siya ng African-American spirituals, gospel, and blues,
mas authentic yung feel. Para siyang act of remembering history, habang sine-
celebrate din yung strength ng community.
That’s why in literature and dance criticism, Revelations is often studied like
a text of liberation and faith.
May symbolism, imagery, and universal themes na timeless.
Kaya siya masterpiece — kasi hindi lang siya “art to watch,” it’s also a

“Okay class, last but not least, we have Hip-hop or Street Dance.
So ano ba siya? Basically, super energetic and urban in style.
Linked siya with hip-hop culture, kaya andiyan yung freestyle, sharp moves,
rhythm-based grooves, at syempre high energy! 🔥
Unlike ballet or ballroom na sobrang structured, hip-hop thrives on creativity
and individuality.
👉 Question muna: sino dito marunong mag-TikTok dance or kahit simpleng
wave? ✋
See? Kahit simpleng groove, pasok na sa hip-hop vibes, kasi it’s all about
your own style.
Literary reviews describe hip-hop dance — lalo na yung breakdancing — as
more than just art.
It’s also a form of resistance and self-expression.
Bakit? Kasi it originated in the Bronx noong 1970s, sa panahon na
maraming kabataan nakakaranas ng poverty at racial struggles.
Instead of violence, ginamit nila ang dance para i-express frustrations,
dreams, and identity nila.
👉 Scholars even call hip-hop a cultural text in motion.
Ibig sabihin, bawat spin, freeze, at footwork may meaning — it embodies
rebellion, resilience, and creativity.
Parang storytelling siya, pero gamit katawan instead of words.
At the same time, kahit nagsimula siya sa streets, hip-hop grew into a global
influence.
Now makikita mo na siya sa competitions, concerts, TV shows, and even
classrooms.
through movement.
So in short, hip-hop is not just about moves — it’s about voice, culture, and
identity.
It turns struggles into power and expression.”
Next naman: Festival Dance. 🎉
festivals.
Very colorful — as in vibrant costumes, lively music, and movements that
tell stories.
👉 Example: Sinulog Festival Dance in Cebu.
Sobrang iconic nito kasi hindi lang siya basta performance — it’s a whole
cultural event na dinadayo pa ng thousands of people every year.
So paano siya tinitignan ng scholars?
Festival dances are a fusion of spirituality and cultural heritage.
On one hand, it’s an act of devotion to the Santo Niño.
On the other hand, it’s also a celebration of Cebuano history and identity.
👉 Tingnan mo closely, may narrative yung galaw.
Pre-colonial side: reflects rituals of worship and thanksgiving.
Colonial side: shows Catholic influences introduced during the Spanish
period.
Kaya sinasabi ng mga scholars na festival dances are like embodied cultural
texts.
Through movement and music, they retell stories of colonization, faith, and
unity.
So every step, every beat, may deeper meaning.
In short: Festival Dance = celebration + storytelling + devotion, all in one.
Kaya kapag sumasayaw sila sa Sinulog or any fiesta dance, hindi lang yun
entertainment — it’s also preservation of tradition and culture.
dance, anong costume gusto niyo? (hintayin sagot ng audience para light moment
😆)”

“Okay class, next art form is Film. 🎥
Film is the art of putting together successions of still images to create
movement.
the values, struggles, and identity of societies. Kaya siya powerful na medium of
storytelling.
At
anong title? (pause for answers para engaging)
Now, para mas maintindihan natin, let’s go through the elements of film:
Level – kung paano naka-position ang camera.
👉 Example: eye-level feels natural, low-angle makes someone look
powerful, high-angle makes them look weak.
(Pwede mong tanungin: “Class, naalala niyo ba yung scene na parang
nakakatakot kasi naka-high angle yung camera?”)
Lighting – sets the mood.
👉 Bright = happy scenes, Dark = suspense or horror.
(Think horror movies, diba lagi madilim?)
Framing – paano naka-place yung subject sa shot.
👉 Centered = focus, Off-center = tension or imbalance.
Camera Distance – close-up for emotions, medium shot for natural view,
long shot for setting.
(Example: kapag drama, laging close-up para kita iyak ng character.)
Angle – direction ng shot.
👉 Over-the-shoulder shows perspective, Bird’s-eye shows big picture.
Movement – galaw ng camera.
👉 Panning, tilting, zooming, tracking. (Kapag chase scene, usually tracking
shot yan para intense.)
So, with these elements, filmmakers don’t just tell a story — they make us
feel it.
Now, let’s move to a literary element in film.
Example: the song “Bayang Sarili” in Heneral Luna (2015). 🇵🇭
The song adds depth to the story — nagpapakita ng sacrifice, patriotism,
betrayal, and the fight for freedom.
Critics even say it’s like a lament for a divided nation.
👉 Parang chorus sa isang play, Bayang Sarili comments on what’s happening
and makes the audience feel the tragedy more.
It shows na ang problema ng Pilipinas noon was not just the colonizers, pero
pati internal conflicts and division.
Kaya dahil sa kantang ito, Heneral Luna is not just a historical movie.
Nagiging parang poetic story of nationhood and identity.
In short, film can be both art and literature on screen. 🎬✨
👉 Mini-check: If you were a director, anong genre of film ang gagawin niyo
— action, rom-com, horror, or historical? (wait for responses, para interactive)”
SCRIPT (Interactive Style, Taglish):
"Okay class, let’s talk about Architecture.
naiisip niyo? (hintayin saglit) — tama, usually buildings or structures, ‘di ba?
Actually, architecture is simply the art of making beautiful buildings.
mo ilalagay yung kwarto, banyo, kusina? Malamang magiging magulo. Kaya dito
building. So construction = tibay at safety.
👉 Pangatlo, Design.
So class, kapag pinagsama natin ang plan, construction, at design — dun
lang nagiging successful ang architecture. Question: Kung kayo ang gagawa ng
Plan,
Construction, or Design?"
Para mas maintindihan natin, let’s look at an example: the Colosseum in
Rome, Italy.
Or kahit sa
movies? (hintayin reaction)
The Colosseum is one of the most iconic works of architecture in the world.
Ginawa ito noong ancient Roman times, around 70–80 AD pa! Imagine, hanggang
Makikita natin dito yung 3 key elements of architecture:
Plan – designed as a huge amphitheater na pwedeng mag-seat ng around
50,000–80,000 people. Kaya perfect siya for entertainment shows and gladiator
fights noon.
Construction – ginamit nila yung concrete at stones, plus advanced
engineering for its time. Kaya super tibay niya, kaya buhay pa hanggang ngayon.
Design – kita n’yo naman, yung arches and symmetry make it not just
functional, pero sobrang iconic and beautiful din.
So the Colosseum shows us na architecture is not just about buildings — it’s
about history, culture, and identity. Kaya hanggang ngayon, it remains a symbol of
Roman power and artistry."
