and time in hand to increase a person's productivity. Preparing a timetable for work, play, and
relaxation activities and sticking to the allotted timings helps with time management. Hence, it is
important in self-management.

blessings, including people in your life, helps you notice that there are many positive things in

appearance. If you are healthy and well-groomed and feel that people have a good opinion of
your appearance you tend to be more confident.
³³ Cultural factors: It refers to the values and customs of people around you. If you feel
pressured by these customs and forced to do things you do not believe in, it could negatively
affect your self-confidence.
5. Meditation is an activity that can help in many ways including helping develop several
self-management skills. Neuroscientists have found that when you ask your brain to meditate
it gets better with time at self-control, tension, stress management, and self-awareness. In
Indian culture, meditation has been known for more than 2000 years as a means to gain
self-knowledge.
6. Self-management can be defined as the strategic management of one's abilities and resources
throughout one’s life to achieve personal goals and become more productive. Self-management
involves understanding yourself better, being aware of your abilities, developing a positive
attitude, grooming yourself, and taking responsibility to give your best. Self-management skills
can help you to manage time, resources and your ability and sentiments to overcome the
situation. A self-managed person has been compared to a tree that does not only take care of
itself but also helps other plants growing around it.
Knowledge increases self-esteem and the ability to do things. This aspect includes developing the
curiosity to learn. Knowledge also plays a vital role in effective self-management which works like
a skill in the process.
7. Some ways to develop self-motivation are as follows:
³³ Find the driving force within you to do rather than relying on a continuous push from others.
³³ Set short-term goals that can lead to the attainment of long-term goals.
³³ Measure your daily progress.
8. Interests are activities that you enjoy doing and want to learn more about whereas on the other
hand abilities are related to your natural or acquired skills. For example, a person may have
good artistic skills as an ability and may be interested in sports at the same time. When interests
and abilities match, they become your most important strengths, and you are able to perform
those tasks better than most people around you. If you are interested in something, but your
ability in that area is not strong enough, you can work to improve your ability in that area.
9. To inculcate positive thinking, there is a mantra called SMILE.
S: Start your day in a positive way: Before starting work in the morning, spend some time
indulging in a positive activity that you enjoy, such as watching a motivational video, doing yoga,
or talking to a positive person.
M: Over a short break during the day or over a longer period once your work is over, do
something that is calming for you. It could be meditating for a few minutes, listening to music,
or watching a rejuvenating video.
I: Imagine the best in any situation. Do not focus on how things can go bad; think of how you
can make them better! Even the darkest clouds have a silver lining; learn to notice the positive
aspects of things.
L: Learn to accept a feedback positively. Instead of being offended when someone shares the
feedback with you, focus on how it can help you improve yourself.
E: Express gratitude and be thankful for the good things in your life and the people who want
good things for you. Let them know, you appreciate them.
10. Being committed to a task means dedicating oneself physically and mentally to the responsibility
at hand. An example of this could be scoring well in exams wherein a student wants to score
well by physically studying for exams and mentally preparing themselves and concentrating on
the ways they can improve themselves.
