According to Amoako, Doe, and Neequaye (2021), their study examined how online innovation

influences repurchase intentions in the hotel industry, with customer experience playing a
mediating role. Data from 167 clients of a two-star hotel in Accra, Ghana, were analyzed using
structural equation modeling. The findings showed that while online innovation positively
impacts repurchase intentions, the effect is strengthened when customers have a positive
experience. This highlights the need for hotel managers to prioritize customer experience to
enhance repurchase behavior. This study relates to the current research on purchase intentions in
hotels, as it emphasizes the importance of customer experience in influencing guests’ purchasing
decisions.

Ferreira, Pereira, and Simões (2023) conducted a study to examine the factors that influence
consumers’ intentions to visit green hotels by integrating psychological and contextual elements.
Using the theory of planned behavior (TPB), the researchers assessed how attitude, subjective
norms, perceived behavioral control, biospheric value, and green trust affected these intentions.
The study, conducted in Portugal, revealed that consumers generally have strong intentions to
visit green hotels, with TPB variables and biospheric value positively influencing behavioral
intentions. These findings highlight the importance of promoting green trust and environmental
values in marketing strategies, which can also be applied to our study on purchase intentions in
hotels by incorporating sustainability aspects into hotel services to attract more consumers.

Nimri, Patiar, and Jin (2019) conducted a study to explore the factors that influence
consumers’ intentions to stay in green hotels by expanding the theory of planned behavior (TPB).
The study incorporated past experiences into the TPB model to gain a deeper understanding of
how consumers make decisions about staying at environmentally friendly hotels. Data collected
from 781 Australian travelers revealed that past experience played a key role in shaping
consumers’ intentions to choose green hotels. The results suggest that hotel managers should
focus on creating positive, eco-friendly experiences to encourage repeat visits. This study is
relevant to our research on purchase intentions in hotels, as it highlights the importance of
consumer experiences in shaping future purchasing decisions, particularly for eco-conscious
travelers.

Saw et al. (2019) examined the factors that influence consumers’ intentions to make online
hotel reservations in Malaysia, focusing on elements such as perceived price, trust, social
influence, prior online purchase experience, and perceived risk. The study found that perceived
price, trust, prior online experience, and perceived risk had significant effects on consumers’
intentions to book hotels online, while social influence did not show a notable impact. This study
is important as it highlights the growing reliance on online platforms in the hotel industry and
how consumer trust and pricing play a critical role in purchase decisions. The findings support our
research on purchase intentions in hotels, particularly regarding the influence of trust and
previous online experiences in shaping consumer behavior.

Xiaobing (2020) conducted research on how perceived risk affects the purchase intention of
consumers in smart hotels, using a questionnaire to gather customer insights on their perception,
trust, and risk associated with smart hotel products. The study found that while customers
generally have a positive perception and trust in smart hotels, they also have concerns about the
functional, service, and safety risks. However, these perceived risks did not significantly influence
their purchase intentions. This study is relevant to our research on hotel purchase intentions, as it
emphasizes the role of customer trust in driving booking decisions, while highlighting that
perceived risk may not deter consumers from making a purchase.

Juliana et al. (2021) conducted an experimental study to analyze how advertisements and
service quality in green and non-green hotels influence consumers’ purchase intentions. Using a
sample of 100 participants and fictitious hotel advertisements, the study found that green hotel
advertisements significantly increased purchase intentions, while non-green hotel
advertisements had no effect. Additionally, service quality in green hotels positively impacted
purchase intentions, whereas non-green hotel service quality did not. This study is relevant to our
research on purchase intentions in hotels, as it highlights the importance of environmentally
friendly marketing and high service quality in driving consumer decisions.

Dam and Huynh (2022) examined factors influencing consumers’ purchase intentions toward
booking accommodations through lodging websites in Binh Duong, Vietnam. The study identified
that online lodging reviews, trust with the host, website usability, and perceived privacy and
security positively affected purchase intentions. Among these factors, online reviews had the
most significant impact, while perceived lodging value and price were not significant influencers.
This research offers valuable insights into understanding the role of online reviews and trust in
shaping purchase intentions, which is relevant to our study of hotel purchase intentions,
especially for accommodations booked online.

Onobrakpeya and Otutuadum (2024) explored the influence of electronic word-of-mouth

(eWOM) on customer purchase intention for hotel services in Delta State, Nigeria. The study
focused on luxury hotel customers and gathered data using a standardized questionnaire from a
sample of 384 respondents. Findings revealed that online reviews, the quality of brand
information, and the credibility of message sources positively impacted customers’ purchase
intentions. This study highlights the importance of eWOM in shaping consumer behavior, which
aligns with our research on purchase intentions in hotels, emphasizing the need for hotels to
engage with online reviews and customer feedback.

Wong, Ng, and Khan (2024) examined how the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) influences
consumer behavior towards selecting luxury hotels in Malaysia. The study focused on factors like
attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, and the effect of fake reviews on hotel
selection. The researchers used an online questionnaire, collecting 400 responses from
individuals who had stayed in luxury hotels. Their findings showed that attitude, subjective
norms, and perceived behavioral control, along with fake reviews, significantly affect the
intention to choose luxury hotels. Additionally, the study found that intention plays a key role in
mediating the relationship between these factors and hotel selection, offering insights relevant to
understanding purchase intentions in the hotel industry.

Makanyeza, Svotwa, and Jaiyeoba (2021) studied how consumer rights awareness affects
attitudes and purchase intentions in the hotel industry, along with the moderating role of
demographic factors like gender, age, and education. The researchers found that awareness of
consumer rights positively influenced both consumer attitudes and their intention to purchase
hotel services. They also discovered that consumer attitude directly affected purchase intentions.
Additionally, education was found to strengthen the relationship between consumer rights
awareness and both attitude and intention, while gender and age did not have a significant
effect. These findings are relevant to understanding how consumer rights awareness can impact
hotel guests’ purchasing decisions, especially for those with higher education levels.
