METHODOLOGY
Research Design
This study uses a method of quantitative analysis to assess the perceived significance
of solar-powered street lighting in enhancing residential safety and security and its impact on
increasing visibility, preventing crime, and reducing accidents. In addition, this study would
also identify community concerns and considerations influencing the adoption of solar-
powered street lights in residential areas. A structured survey questionnaire was developed to
gather the needed data. The questionnaire was disseminated through Google Forms by the
researchers to the respondents to gather feedback and information that may help in the
interpretation of findings.
Research Respondents
The target population of this study includes the residents of Tanauan, Leyte. Simple
random sampling will be used to gather data from the 50 selected respondents, ensuring
sufficient representation from various residential areas.
Research Instrument
The development of a research instrument is one of the most important
aspects of this study. A structured survey questionnaire was used in the study to be the
primary tool in measuring the perceived impact of solar-powered streetlights on residential
safety and security and identifying concerns and considerations influencing the adoption of
solar-powered street lights. The survey tool consisted of the following parts: Part I includes
the profile characteristics of respondents according to their residential status; Part II asks the
respondents about the perceived impact of solar-powered street lights on residential security.
Respondents were asked to score various questions on a 5-point Likert scale, ranging from
strongly disagree (5), disagree (4), neutral (3), agree (2), and strongly agree (1). Part III asks
the respondents about various concerns and considerations influencing the adoption of solar-
powered street lights. Similar to part II, respondents were asked to score various questions on
a 5-point Likert scale, ranging from strongly disagree (5), disagree (4), neutral (3), agree (2),
and strongly agree (1). To gather data from residents and their responses, a survey through
Google Forms was conducted, and Microsoft Excel will be utilized as a tally sheet to collect
data. This method allows efficient organization and analysis of the responses. The gathered
data will be evaluated to assess the significance of solar-powered streetlights on residential
safety and security.
Method and Procedure
The researchers made sure that all procedures were followed before, during, and after
the data collection process. After outlining the purpose and importance of the study, the
research questionnaires were given to participants either in person or online. Participants
won't be given any time restrictions. Assuring the selected respondents that the information
gathered will remain anonymous and be used exclusively for the study encourages their
voluntary engagement. Digital recordings of the surveys were made and saved for following
review.
Treatment of Data

RECOMMENDATIONS
Based on the study's findings, there are numerous approaches to improve how solar-
powered street lighting improves residential security in Tanauan, Leyte. One of the first
stages is to educate the community on the benefits of these lights, particularly in terms of
keeping neighborhoods safe at night. Organizing barangay workshops or distributing basic
information materials will help locals understand how lighting can reduce crime and make
them feel safer. It is also critical to locate the lights in areas where they are most needed, such
as dimly lit alleys, quiet corners, or paths that inhabitants frequently avoid at night. Proper
placement can directly affect how secure individuals feel in their surroundings.
In addition, another factor to consider is the appearance of the lights. Choosing clean
and basic designs that go nicely with the residential setting can make inhabitants feel more at
ease having them close. To ensure that the lights continue to perform effectively, they should
be checked and maintained regularly. Barangay officials or trained community volunteers
might be tasked with maintaining the lights, cleaning the panels, and reporting any technical
concerns. In addition, combining solar street lighting with other safety measures, such as
installing CCTV cameras or organizing neighborhoods patrols, can improve overall security
in the region. It is also helpful to track the effectiveness of the lighting system by collecting
feedback from residents and monitoring any changes in crime rates. These steps can guide
future decisions and improvements. By doing all of these, Tanauan can build a safer, more
sustainable, and more secure environment for its residents.
CONCLUSION
The sole purpose of the study is to assess the perceived significance of solar-powered
street lighting in enhancing residential security and to identify concerns and considerations
influencing its adoption in residential areas.
The results of the survey conducted in Tanauan, Leyte, reveal high proportion of
home ownership, strong awareness of solar-powered street lights, and significant
implementation of these lighting systems near residential areas. In general, residents are
highly appreciative of solar-powered street lights, recognizing their contributions to improved
nighttime visibility, reduced accidents and crime, and enhanced community peace and order.
The adoption of solar-powered street lights is influenced, however, by concerns regarding
budget limitations, lack of public awareness, maintenance issues, and weather-related
performance. These insights emphasize the need to address these concerns if broader
acceptance and more effective use of solar-powered lighting systems in residential
communities are to be promoted.
