Football Clinic (Day 1) 120mins

Aim is to learn basic passing and dribbling skills using the correct form.

Warm up
Duration: 10mins
Players form two lines (male/female). Jog around the field. When coach whistles, players at the end
of each line will sprint to the front and so on.

Stretching
Duration: 10mins
Neck, arms, legs
Crunches/Plank

Water break: 5mins

Drills:
A. Passing
Duration: approx. 15mins
Equipment (1 ball per pair)
Short passes (ground ball), players (in pairs or groups of three) are 5 steps away from each other -
using instep, right foot (20 reps) then left foot (20 reps)
Note: When receiving the ball, knees must be bent, ankles locked, toes pointing upward. Ball must
touch the inside of the foot, along the arch, close to the ankle. Player must cushion the ball with a
soft touch. When striking the ball, supporting foot must be in line with and 5-6inches away from the
ball. Point supporting foot in the direction of the target, lock ankle and bring kicking leg back and
swing through the middle of the ball. Contact the ball with the arch of the foot, close to the ankle.
Medium passes (ground ball), players are 10 steps away from each other - using instep, right foot
(20 reps) then left foot (20 reps)
Note: Same technique as with short passes.

Water break: 5mins

B. Dribbling
Duration: 15mins
Equipment (1 ball for each group)
Each group forms two vertical lines facing each other, 30 steps apart. Player 1 of line 1 dribbles
towards player 1 of line 2 in a straight line using leading edge of the foot. Once player 1 of line 1
gets to the opposite line, he passes the ball to player 1 of line 2. Player 1 of line 1 goes to the back
of line 2 and player 1 of line 2 dribbles the ball back to line 1, and so on.
Note: Use gentle touches, gallop (on your toes), try not to look at the ball while dribbling by
keeping the ball in your lower field of vision.

Running Drill (sprints): Fastest runners will be the Midfielders, slowest will be the Defenders.
Take note of the players' assigned positions.

Water break: 5mins

Discussion: Soccer positions. Rules of the game (kickoff, throw-in, etc.)

Scrimmages (7- or 8-a-side, no goalkeeper)

Aim is to apply the basic passing and dribbling techniques and to get the feel of the game, focusing
on controlling the ball, moving the ball around, and getting the ball to the other side of the field.
Less emphasis on scoring goals.
Note: Offensive players pass the ball around (approx. 8 passes) before attempting to score a goal.
Defensive players mark their opponents (within an arm's length) but do not attempt to tackle. Ball
possession changes after 8 passes.

Football Clinic (Day 2) 120mins

Aim is to further develop the basic skills using the correct form.

Warm up

Duration:
Equipment (1 ball per pair)
Short passes (ground ball), players are 5 steps away from each other - using instep, right foot (20

Long passes (ground ball), players are 20 steps away from each other - using instep, right foot (20

ball, the supporting foot should be on the side of the ball about hip width away, pointing towards
the target.

Moving Triangles: Players start in a triangle formation about 10 steps away from each other.
Player 1 passes to Player 2 and immediately sprints towards the space between the other two
players, 2 and 3. Player 2 receives the ball and passes to Player 3 with no more than two touches.
Player 2 now sprints towards the space between players 1 and 3. They may not always run between
the other 2 players, and instead run behind them.
Duration: 15mins

B. Dribbling
Equipment (1 ball for each group)
Each group forms two vertical lines facing each other, 30 steps apart. Player 1 of line 1 dribbles
towards the player 1 of line 2 in a straight line using leading edge of the foot. Once player 1 of line
1 gets to the opposite line, he passes the ball to player 1 of line 2. Player 1 of line 1 goes to the back
of line 2 and player 1 of line 2 dribbles the ball to line 1.
Notes: Use gentle touches, gallop (on your toes), try not to look at the ball while dribbling by
keeping the ball in your lower field of vision.

C. Basic Defense
3 players form a horizontal line. Coach dribbles the ball towards Player 1. Player 1 approaches to
put pressure on the ball. Player 2 follows Player 1, keeping a small distance (a few steps back and to
the side) between him and Player 1. Player 3 advances a little bit towards Player 2. Coach dribbles
the ball towards Player 2. Player 2 approaches to put pressure on the ball. Players 1 and 3 move
towards Player 2, keeping a small distance between them and Player 2. And so on..

Running Drill (sprints): Fastest runners will be the Midfielders, slowest will be Defenders. Take

Duration: 15mins

B. Dribbling (1 touch interior exterior)

Equipment (1 ball for each group, 1 cone)
Each group forms one vertical line. Player 1 dribbles towards the cone in a straight line using the
instep and the out step of the right foot alternatively. Once player 1 gets to the cone, he dribbles the
ball back using the instep and the out step of the left foot alternatively. Player 1 then passes the ball
to Player 2, and Player 2 repeats the process.

keeping the ball in your lower field of vision.

C. Basic Defense
The attacking team has 5 players in a 3-2 formation and the defending team has 4 players plus the
goal keeper in a 3-1 formation. Nearest defender to the attacker with the ball applies immediate
pressure. Defenders mark their man and half of someone else's. Keep track of forward runs.
Defenders have to clear the ball.

using both feet and using the instep and the out step. When players reach the cone, players switch
roles, defender now becomes the attacker and dribbles back towards the line. Once they reach the
line, next pair starts the same process.

must be slightly bent with his weight on the front of his feet. Always stay within an arm's length.
