I.
Directions: Write RF if the given is a Rational Function; otherwise, write NR then justify why it is
not a rational function.
RF,There are no radicals and fractions

NR, because there is a negative exponent which is (x^-1)

NR,because it has a radical sign

RF,because it does not show any violations

NR,because it has a radical sign and fractions

NR,because the exponent is a fraction

RF,because the denominator is not equal to zero

NR,because the exponent is a fraction

RF,because 0 is = to 1

NR,because it has radical signs and fractions

II.
Directions: Represent the following situations using rational functions.

1. A car traveled 200 km for x hours and another 100 km for 2 hours. Express the average speed of the
car as a function of x.

Distance:200km ; 100km
Hours:x ; 2 Hours
Speed:?

Average speed: Total Distance/Total Time (200)(x) km/h ; (100)/(2)= 50km/h

\--------+---------/
(300)km/h ; x+2
Average Speed: 300
-----km/h
x+2

2. An apparel company has a fixed cost of ₱50 000 and they still have to spend ₱1 000 in order to purchase
materials for the dress they make. The price of each dress is ₱2 500. Express the function that
represents the average profit per dress in terms of the number of dresses produced.

Fixed Cost: Php 50,000

Cost: Php 1,000
Price: Php 2,500
Number of dresses: x
Average Profit: ???

Total Cost:Php 50,000 + Php 1,000x Profit: Php 2,500x (Php 50,000 + Php 1,000x)
Total Profit: Php2,500x 2,500x - Php 50,000 - 1,000x
Minus same variables: 2,500x1,000x = 1,500x
Average Profit: 1,500x - 50,000
