MOULDING PROCESS

Moulding is coined to denote a process to produce objects by shaping or casting the

mould’s required material. Moulding can be defined as a manufacturing technique used to create
different shaped materials in various forms like glass, sand, metals, and plastics.

Moulding is usually used in numerous industries for producing different objects of

multiple shapes, sizes, and colors.

INDUSTRIES INVOLVING MOULDING PROCESS

Eurotiles Industrial Corporation

Eurotiles Industrial Corporation, is one of the leading manufacturers of Philippine

ceramic tiles that carry the brand name EUROTILES SUPERIOR CERAMIC TILES.

Orocan

Orocan is one of Asia’s top Plastic container manufacturers. Specializing in

Thermoinsulation and highly durable plastic containers. They are the ones who are creating the
molders for their plastic containers and highly utilizes the process of pressure injection molding.

MECHANICAL ENGINEER’S ROLE IN THE MOULDING PROCESS

Mechanical engineers help in moulding by designing the parts and moulds, choosing the
right materials, and making sure the process runs smoothly. They set the right conditions like
temperature and pressure, check the quality of the products, and fix problems if defects appear.
They also take care of the molders, reduce waste, and find ways to make production faster and
cheaper.

REFINING PROCESS
The refining process begins with crude oil. Crude oil is unrefined liquid petroleum. Crude
oil is composed of thousands of different chemical compounds called hydrocarbons, all with
different boiling points. Science — combined with an infrastructure of pipelines, refineries, and
transportation systems - enables crude oil to be transformed into useful and affordable products.

Refining turns crude oil into usable products. Petroleum refining separates crude oil into
components used for a variety of purposes. The crude petroleum is heated and the hot gases are
passed into the bottom of a distillation column. As the gases move up the height of the column,
the gases cool below their boiling point and condense into a liquid. The liquids are then drawn
off the distilling column at specific heights to obtain fuels like gasoline, jet fuel and diesel fuel.

INDUSTRIES INVOLVING REFINING PROCESS

San Pablo Manufacturing Corporation (Minola)

In the Philippines, San Pablo Manufacturing Corporation (SPMC) stands as a significant

player, particularly in the refining of crude coconut oil (CNO) into high-grade, refined, bleached,
and deodorized (RBD) coconut oil. SPMC’s plant located in San Antonio, San Pascual,
Batangas, boasts a robust operational capacity, capable of handling up to 135,000 metric tons
annually. The refining process is crucial for SPMC as it removes impurities, free fatty acids, and
undesirable compounds from crude oil, ensuring product quality, stability, and compliance with
both domestic and international food safety standards.

Petron Corporation

Petron Corporation is the largest oil company in the Philippines and operates the
country’s only remaining refinery. The company supplies around 40% of the nation’s total fuel
requirements through its 180,000 barrel-per-day oil refinery in Bataan. Considered one of the
most advanced facilities in the region, the refinery processes crude oil into a wide range of
petroleum products, including gasoline, diesel, LPG, jet fuel, kerosene, and petrochemicals.

MECHANICAL ENGINEER’S ROLE IN THE REFINING PROCESS

Mechanical engineers help in the refining process by designing and taking care of
machines like pumps, heat exchangers, and compressors that turn raw materials into useful
products. They make sure the equipment runs safely, efficiently, and can handle tough conditions
like high heat and pressure. They also work to save energy, prevent breakdowns, and keep the
quality of the products high.

DIE-CUTTING PROCESS

Die cutting involves the use of a specialized die—crafted with the exact dimensions of
the desired component—to cleanly cut, shape, or engrave materials. This process is vital in
industries ranging from automotive and aerospace to electronics, medical devices, and
packaging.
What sets die cutting apart from other fabrication methods is its ability to handle high
volumes while maintaining exact tolerances. With the right die and process, manufacturers can
ensure components integrate seamlessly into broader assemblies.

INDUSTRIES INVOLVING DIE-CUTTING PROCESS

San Miguel Food Corporation

San Miguel Foods is one of the leading food companies in the Philippines. Its products
and services span across the entire value chain, ranging from animal feeds, fresh chicken, and
fresh meats to processed meats, ready-to-eat food, flour, dairy, spreads, and coffee, making it
undoubtedly the most diversified food player in the country today. In this extensive operation,
die-cutting plays a crucial role in packaging as it allows for the precise shaping of cartons, labels,
and containers that protect products, ensure convenience, and strengthen brand identity across its
wide range of offerings.

Universal Robina Corporation

Universal Robina Corporation (URC) is one of the largest branded consumer food and
beverage companies in the Philippines. The company operates in a wide range of food-related
businesses, including the production and distribution of snack foods, beverages, coffee, sugar,
flour, and agro-industrial products such as hogs and animal feeds. URC has built powerful
regional brands like Jack ‘n Jill, C2 Cool and Clean, and Great Taste, which continue to grow in
popularity across Asian markets. To support its diverse product portfolio, die-cutting plays a vital
role in producing precise and appealing packaging that ensures product protection, convenience,
and strong visibility in highly competitive retail environments.

MECHANICAL ENGINEER’S ROLE IN THE DIE-CUTTING PROCESS

Mechanical engineers play an important role in the die-cutting process by designing and
maintaining the machines and dies used to cut materials into specific shapes. They make sure the
dies are precise, durable, and well-suited for the material being used, whether it’s metal, plastic,
or paper. They also set up the right cutting conditions, like pressure and alignment, to ensure
accuracy and reduce waste. In addition, they troubleshoot problems, improve efficiency, and
keep the equipment in good working condition
