Chapter 1
Introduction of the study

Background of the Study

Smartphones and smartphone apps have undergone an explosive growth in

the past decade. However, smartphone battery technology hasn't been able to keep

pace with the rapid growth of the capacity and the functionality of smartphones and

apps. As a result, battery has always been a bottleneck of a user's daily experience

of smartphones. An accurate estimation of the remaining battery life could

tremendously help the user to schedule their activities and use their smartphones

more efficiently. Existing studies on battery life prediction have been primitive due to

the lack of real-world smartphone usage data at scale. This paper presents a novel

method that uses the state-of-the-art machine learning models for battery life

prediction, based on comprehensive and real-time usage traces collected from

smartphones. The proposed method is the first that identifies and addresses the

severe data missing problem in this context, using a principled statistical metric

called the concordance index. The method is evaluated using a dataset collected

from 51 users for 21 months, which covers comprehensive and fine-grained

smartphone usage traces including system status, sensor indicators, system events,

and app status. We find that the remaining battery life of a smartphone can be

accurately predicted based on how the user uses the device at the real-time, in the

current session, and in history. The machine learning models successfully identify

predictive features for battery life and their applicable scenarios (Li Huoran, Liu

Xuanzhe & Mei, Qiaozhu, 2018).

Nowadays, due to the decreasing amount of renewable energy resources, the

last ten years become more important for per watt cost of solar energy device. It is

definitely set to become economical in the coming years and growing as better

technology in terms of both cost and applications. Everyday earth receives sunlight

above (1366W approx.) This is an unlimited source of energy which is available at no

cost. The major benefit of solar energy over other conventional power generators is

that the sunlight can be directly converted into solar energy with the use of smallest

photovoltaic (PV) solar cells. There have been a large amount of research activities

to combine the Sun’ energy process by developing solar cells/panels/module with

high converting form. the most advantages of solar energy is that it is free reachable

to common people and available in large quantities of supply compared to that of the

price of various fossil fuels and oils in the past ten years. Moreover, solar energy

requires considerably lower manpower expenses over conventional energy

production technology (Shaikh et al., 2017).

Portable power banks have gained immense popularity as a solution for

charging mobile devices on the go. These devices offer a convenient way to extend

battery life, especially when access to wall outlets is limited.

In conclusion, the background of the study for the quality of a solar-powered

multifunctional phone stand with a built-in power bank is driven by the convergence

of technological advancements, environmental concerns, and consumer demand for

sustainable and convenient solutions. By prioritizing quality, innovation, and user

experience, this product can become a valuable tool for individuals seeking a

convenient and eco-friendly charging solution, contributing to a more sustainable

future.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

This chapter covers the review of related literatures and studies to certain

criteria of relevance, interest, and suitability that would be helpful for the researcher

to study and understand the quality of a multifunctional device as a possible

alternative for conventional products

Conceptual Literature and Related Studies

Solar-Powered

This paper explores renewable energy as a viable solution for meeting

current and future energy demands. Its objective is to review the research landscape

and map the position of international studies on renewable energy and solar panels

indexed in Scopus, using a bibliometric approach. The research utilized bibliometric

techniques, with data analysis and visualization performed through the VOSviewer

software and the Scopus search analysis function. The review examined 1,598

documents published between 1989 and 2020. The findings revealed that the

National University of Singapore and institutions in India were the most active

contributors to renewable energy and solar panel research. The Engineering and

Energy Procedia were identified as key areas of study and publication sources.

Additionally, eight global research clusters were identified, highlighting collaboration

among researchers. To map the knowledge generated over 32 years, the study

created a convergence axis group, including Solar Energy, Energy, Renewable

Energy, Management, Power, Technology, and Environmental studies, collectively

abbreviated as SERMPTE (Choifin et al., 2021).

Energy resources can categorize as renewable energy resources and non-,

renewable energy resources. Due to some harmful environmental impacts such as

air pollution, climate change, and natural resources decay, people are focused on

using renewable energy resources to generate energy. Solar energy is one of the

widely discussing renewable energy resources. Recently with the rising human

population and energy demand, new technologies and improvements should be

made in the solar energy field to fulfill the global energy demands and increase

energy efficiency. The electricity cannot generate at night is a massive weakness of

the traditional solar cell. In this study mainly focus on solar energy and discusses

innovation, improvements, and future view of solar energy technologies (Arachchig &
11

Science Technology and Engineering
Dueñas, Iloilo

Weliwaththage, 2020).Power Bank

In this work, a sustainable power storage system that uses lithium-ion

batteries for daily demands and domestic applications is presented. For a variety of

applications, including home, military, and aerospace, the absence of a portable

power source has long been an issue. Current technology frequently jeopardizes

device safety and is only appropriate for electronics with reduced power

requirements, like smartphones. In order to power more expensive goods like laptops

and televisions, this expandable power bank seeks to have a larger capacity. It is

more durable and has a longer lifespan thanks to the addition of several safety

measures like overcurrent and overvoltage protection. The power bank may be

charged using a photovoltaic source (S. P. A, M. S. P. Subathra, R. Kotwal, R. Sahu

and T. S. Chandel, 2020).

The objective of this research is to design a Solar Powered Portable Power

Bank for mobile phone using sunlight as its ultimate power, which can be used

effectively during disaster events. It has in-built solar panel which converts the solar

energy to electrical energy. The charge is then transferred to a battery for storage of

charge for further use, with the battery having a microcontroller indicating the percent

of charge present in the battery. The battery is connected to a charging circuit having

an USB port as output to the respective Mobile phones (Fonseca et al., 2019).

In this era where technology is the most valuable thing, many people demand

a device that can provide multifunctional and high-speed multitasking skill in one

simple device. Smartphone came with that technology and so much more

advantages. Beside these advantages in smartphone, there are also some

disadvantages for example power drain. After an intense study and learning the

market needs, we introduce HIPO. HIPO came to cope the problem that happen to

smartphone users with its feature as a power bank in a smartphone and its user-

friendly interface. With a great feature such as fast charging (3.5 hour), large memory

storage up to 256 GB, 32 MP camera, big battery capacity, HIPO will helps you to

have your job done anywhere and everywhere without worrying that your

smartphone will be run out of power (V. Gunawan et al., 2020)

and locate directions. They typically use one hand to handle the phone, so putting

one's safety at risk when driving. Some people use phone holders to place their

phones in front of the motorcycle, however typically, phone holders lack a cover or

water resistance, making it impossible to use phones in the rain. Utilized. In order to

gather information on the challenges faced by drivers, 103 motorcycle taxi drivers

were surveyed. It requires utilizing a phone while operating a motor vehicle.

Additionally, the survey was carried out to ascertain the characteristics and

requirement of phone holders that online drivers require and desire. Knowing what

individuals needed, we created a product (G. Florencia et al.,2021).

With the development of technology and the virtual world, the time people

spend with their phones and tablets has increased. As a result of the increase in

technology consumption, products that will make our lives easier have entered. One

of these products is a wooden phone holder. This product has been produced for us

to watch movies, series or live broadcasts comfortably at home and outdoors. In this

study, added a power bank unit in addition to the classic wooden phone holder.

Designed it with Solid works 2020program and analyzed it with Ansys 2021 program.

with the maximum and minimum values (Mesut Isin & Okan Gul, 2023).

Smart Phones Usage

Over the past ten years, there has been a significant surge in the number of

smartphone users as these gadgets have become essential personal devices. With

the help of these personal gadgets and a wide range of smartphone apps, users can

easily and widely access Internet services. By gathering detailed app usage data,

app developers and service providers can uncover relationships between users,

apps, and handsets. In this survey, we offer a thorough examination of the latest

findings in smartphone app usage analysis. The essential trends in smartphone app

usage behaviors and cutting-edge technology are compiled in our survey, and they

all have important ramifications for industry and academics as well as other pertinent

stakeholders. First, we outline four techniques for gathering data: surveys, network

operators, monitoring apps, and app marketplaces (T. Li et al., 2022).

The aim of this research is the systematic observations analyzed in this study

explore the correlation between smartphone usage habits and learning outcomes

among undergraduate students. The method used in this research is the Systematic

Literature Review (SLR) Method. The SLR method is used to identify, review,

research, and interpret all existing research on the phenomenon of the topic area of

interest, with specific relevant research questions. By using the SLR method,

systematic reviews and identification of journals can be carried out, in each process

following predetermined steps or protocols. Data collection. Data Collection or data

collection is the stage of collecting data for research. The results of the study are that

by conducting a systematic review of the available literature, we can assess the

relationship between smartphone use and academic performance among

undergraduate students. The sources provided in the question do not directly

address the relationship between smartphone use and academic achievement

among undergraduate students. However, they provide information regarding various

methodologies and methods used in studies of digital leadership and smartphone

usage behavior. Therefore, although these sources do not provide direct evidence

regarding the relationship between smartphone use and academic performance, they

can provide insight into research methods and approaches that can be applied to

investigate this issue. Additionally, studies on digital leadership highlight the

importance of adaptability and effective communication in digital environments, which

may be relevant to understanding the impact of smartphone use on academic

performance. Based on the sources provided, both qualitative and quantitative

studies are needed to comprehensively evaluate the relationship between

smartphone use and academic achievement among undergraduate students (M.S

Motorcycle taxi drivers use their handphone to do their job. Motorcycle taxi

drivers need handphone holders to put their handphone when driving. The

Handphone holder itself is essential to protect from falling the handphone while

driving, protecting the handphone from the sun and rain. Therefore, a mobile phone

holder multifunction was made to answer the wants and needs of the community. We

analyzed and designed the formation of PT Sumber Harapan to produce mobile

phone multifunction holders. Based on the Forecast done using the linear regression

method, we produced 17853 units in the first year. PT Sumber Harapan has a BEP of

41965 units, with NPV>0, B/C Ratio>1RR>MARR, and has a payback period of 3

years and 9 months (Florencia et al., 2020).

was constructed using photovoltaic solar panels, a charge controller, and a battery in

order to validate the article's concept. Tests were conducted throughout the day to

confirm various quantities, including voltage and electric current, and use this

information to determine the power supply and battery charging time. Consequently,

it was found that two photovoltaic solar panels performed best at midday, but energy

was produced all day long (S. Udaiyakumar, 2024).

Recently, Smartphone sales have surpassed the sales of all other computing

devices including desktops, laptops and tablet PCs. Moreover, Smartphones have

become a primary device to access the Internet as well as the most commonly used

infotainment gadget among the Generations Y and Z (those born in 80s and 90s).

Despite this widespread adoption of Smartphones among the youth, its usage in

higher education is still a novice idea specifically in developing countries. This study

is aimed at capturing the views of faculty members regarding usage of Smartphones

for promoting learning at the tertiary level. In-depth interviews of 22 faculty members

from different academic departments were conducted for this purpose. Responses of

the interviewees were recorded which were later transcribed and analyzed to draw

inferences. Results of this study indicate that the faculty members considered

Smartphones to be an effective medium for off-campus learning and communication

with peers and students. They also considered Smartphones suitable for explaining

complex topics to their students as audio-visual content available over the Internet

can easily be shared. However, majority of the respondents were skeptical about

using Smartphones for educational purposes as they considered them to be a source

of distraction, wastage of time, technostress, and emotional detachment. Moreover,

they reported small size of both the screen and keyboard as an important limiting

factor undermining the effective use of Smartphones in education. Lack of training

and support, lack of technical knowledge and background, excessive work load and

lack of incentives for using technology in education were reported as major barriers

in adoption of Smartphones in higher learning landscape (Iqbal & Bhatti, 2020).

Power packs are on the rise in popularity as a result of the need for portable

electronic devices and laptops to last as long as possible. The in-built battery in a

Based on the results, using the utilized experimental phone stand, the solar

efficiency and power capability were improved compared than using the commercial

phone stand (control). It arrives to the conclusion that the experimental phone stand

is slightly better than the commercial phone stand (control) in terms of solar efficiency

and power capability. This is due to the fact that in the experimental group, there

were two distinct components that promoted the use of solar power whereas the

control group had only one type of components. Thus, the results negates to the

truthfulness of the null hypotheses, therefore it was rejected and the alternative

hypotheses were accepted.

Recommendation

Based on the results, the researchers recommend the mobile users to utilized solar

powered phone stand in phone usage. Hence, it will lessen their expenses on buying

phone stands and power banks.

Entrepreneurs, the researchers recommend to use solar powered phone

stand to increase the working speed of the employees.
