Exercise No.11 Resistor Color Code
1. What are resistors?
- Resistors are described to be an instrument known to reduce current flow. It is
essentially an electronic device that minimizes or limits the voltage across other
components of a circuit or device. It consists of many color coded bands wherein
colors indicate how much it resists current.
2. Aside from the method used in identifying the value of resistor mentioned, source other
methods of determining the resistance of a given resistor?
- In the laboratory exercise, a table consisting of codes with regards to color
combination indicates a resistor's value. It was also mentioned that a digital and
an analog multimeter can also be used to indicate its value. However, according to
my research, a Wheatson bridge gives a more accurate measurement of the
resistor. A Wheatson bridge is a “divided bridge circuit” used to measure static
and dynamic electrical resistance.
3. Give the ohmic value if the following resistors having the following color bands:
a. Brown-gray-black-gold
b. Red-black-orange no color

Exercise No.12 Ohm’s Law
1. Discuss the variation of current as a function of a voltage.
- According to Ohm’s Law, the relationship between current and voltage are
directly proportional. This simply means when the current increases so does the
voltage, vice versa. The formula, 𝐼 = 𝑉
,shows a linear relationship for ohmic

conductors such as metals.
2. Discuss the variation of current as a function of resistance when voltage is kept constant.
- Based on Ohm’s Law, when voltage is kept constant, the value of the current (in a
circuit) solely depends on the resistance. This showcases an inverse relationship
between current and resistance, when resistance increases the current decreases.
3. Discuss the variation of voltage as a function of resistance when the current is constant.
- When the current remains constant, the value of current is directly proportional to
that of the resistance. Shown in the equation, V=I x R. This just means that when
the current remains constant and when the value of voltage increases, the value of
resistance also increases.
Conclusion:
- In conclusion, according to Ohm’s Law, current is directly proportional to voltage but is
inversely proportional to resistance. However, when voltage remains constant, the value
of current solely depends on resistance. On another note, when current remains constant,
voltage and resistance is directly proportional.

Exercise No.13 Resistors in Series and Parallel
Discuss observations and results.
- We have observed that resistors in series have the same current through each resistor.
This is observed when we have attached and measured them (using an ammeter and
voltmeter). On the other hand, resistors in parallel are quite different. When the resistors
were arranged in parallel, the resistors shared the same voltage as it passes through each
resistor, however since each resistor have different currents in each, measured total
current may have been different each line.
Problems:
1. A 60 ohm and 90 ohm resistors are connected in parallel. If the ammeter reading shows
that the 90-ohm resistor carries 2.0 amp, calculate the following:
a. PD of the power source
b. Current through the 60-ohm resistor
c. Total Current
