N: Hi, it’s Nigel Clarke, your Roadmap reporter, here.
N: Right, so wear a colourful cap to help other swimmers
Now, us Brits love the beach. Every summer, millions see you?

N: OK, what’s next?
But the sea can be really dangerous. So, how do we
have fun, but stay safe? F: You need to wear sun cream every time you go in the
water.
I’m here in Brighton to find out.
N: What about when it’s cold or cloudy?
N: I’m here to meet Fiona Mildner from the Brighton
swimming club. F: Yep. It’s easy to get sunburnt in the water. So, put on
sun cream before every swim.
Fiona’s long-distance swims include The English
Channel and The Manhattan Island marathon, so she N: OK, shall we get ready then?

in the water.
N: Because of the weather?
F: Yes. Maybe it’s really windy or the waves are big. So,
don’t go swimming when you see a red flag.
N: OK, so, what’s next?
F: Next, we need to get ready!
N: OK, so, what do you need to wear in the water?
F: Well, as you can see, the group have all got wetsuits
today because it’s really cold! So, here you go, this is
for you.
N: Thanks! And what do you normally wear?
F: Normally we wear swimming costumes, shorts … that
kind of thing.
N: So, why have some of them got colourful swimming
caps on?
