4.3 Materials
Steel rods (10 mm dia.)
Concrete Mix - C40/10
Shuttering material (plywood/steel)
Water
5. Working Method:
A. Surface Preparation
Using a chisel and hammer or mechanical chipping tool, roughen the surface of the gap to remove laitance and
create a proper key for bonding.
Clean the chipped area thoroughly using a wire brush and air blower to remove all loose particles, dust, and
debris.
B. Drilling and Rod Installation
Drill holes of 12mm diameter on both sides of the penetration to a depth of 30mm to fix steel dowel rods
(10mm diameter).
Clean the drilled holes using air blower to remove dust.
Two rods will be installed in each of the two vertical sides
C. Formwork (Shuttering)
After the steel rods have been securely fixed in place, formwork (shuttering) shall be installed on both sides of
the area to be concreted.
One side of the shuttering shall include a 5 cm wide opening to facilitate the pouring of concrete, while the
opposite side shall be completely sealed to prevent any leakage during casting.
The 5 cm opening shall be shuttered with an inclined profile in three directions to ensure proper flow and
compaction of concrete during pouring.
D. Concrete Pouring
Prepare approved mix C40/10 for Casting.
Pour the concrete slowly into the opening to avoid trapping air.
Use tamping rod to compact & ensure the concrete flows well into all voids and gaps.
E. Curing
Once the concrete is set, remove the shutter after the initial setting time typically 24 hours.
Begin curing immediately using water for 3 days to ensure proper hydration and strength gain.

F. Finishing
Any excess concrete at the top opening shall be ground smooth. In the event of any honeycombing or surface
cracks, repairs shall be carried out using approved material CT-SR & Surface Fairing coat.
All MEP cut-out opening casted wall surfaces designated to receive tiles shall be mechanically roughened
using a grinder to enhance surface adhesion and ensure proper bonding of the tile adhesive.
All MEP cut-out opening casted surfaces intended for painting shall be finished with a smooth surface.
Additionally, a layer of fibre mesh shall be applied over all areas to prevent cracking.
Over the mesh, apply Flexi Coat FC-500 to provide crack resistance and improve surface durability.
G. Final Inspection
Mock up inspection will be submitted for surface preparation prior to start casting.
Final inspection for filled MEP openings will be a part of surface preparation of wall.
