🏍 Question 1: Motorbike Velocity-Time & Analysis
Data Table:
Time (s) 0 5 7 10 15
Velocity (m/s) 20 20 10 20 0
Task (a): Plot the velocity-time graph.
A horizontal line at 20 m/s from t=0 to 5 s.
A straight decline from (5,20) to (7,10).
A rise from (7,10) to (10,20).
A drop from (10,20) to (15,0).
(a) Deceleration 5s–7s
Initial speed = 20 m/s, Final = 10 m/s, Δt = 2 s
Acceleration = (10 – 20)/2 = –5 m/s²
Deceleration = 5 m/s²
(b) Acceleration 7s–10s
Initial = 10 m/s, Final = 20 m/s, Δt = 3 s
a = (20 – 10)/3 ≈ +3.33 m/s²
(c) Deceleration 10s–15s
Initial = 20 m/s, Final = 0 m/s, Δt = 5 s
a = (0 – 20)/5 = –4 m/s² → deceleration = 4 m/s²
(d) Total Distance Travelled in 15 s
Calculate for each segment (distance = average speed × time):
1. 0–5 s: (20 + 20)/2 × 5 = 20 × 5 = 100 m
2. 5–7 s: (20 + 10)/2 × 2 = 15 × 2 = 30 m
3. 7–10 s: (10 + 20)/2 × 3 = 15 × 3 = 45 m
4. 10–15 s: (20 + 0)/2 × 5 = 10 × 5 = 50 m
Total = 100 + 30 + 45 + 50 = 225 m
(e) Average Velocity Over 15 s
v_avg = total distance / total time = 225 m / 15 s = 15 m/s
🚌 Question 2: Bus Acceleration
Initial speed = 0, acceleration a = 0.1 m/s², time t = 2 minutes = 120 s
Final speed = u + at = 0 + 0.1 × 120 = 12 m/s
(Equivalent to ~43.2 km/h)
🎯 Question 3: Mass on Velocity-Time Graph
Graph Description:
Accelerates from 0 m/s to 12 m/s during 0–3 s.
Constant speed (12 m/s) from 3–6 s.
Decelerates from 12 m/s to 0 during 6–10 s.
Mass = 50 g = 0.05 kg
(a) Force in 0–3 s
Δv = 12 m/s, Δt = 3 s → a = 4 m/s²
F = m·a = 0.05 kg × 4 m/s² = 0.2 N (forward)
(b) Force in 6–10 s
Δv = 0 – 12 = –12 m/s, Δt = 4 s → a = –3 m/s²
F = 0.05 × (–3) = –0.15 N (backward)
(c) Is there any time interval in which no force acts on the object?
Justify your answer.
Yes—during the interval 3 s to 6 s, the object's velocity is constant (12 m/s; horizontal section
of the graph). According to Newton's first law, constant velocity means there is zero net
external force acting on the object
