aids people in communicating effectively
Time Frame Week 11(1 Hour)
As part of your profession, you have to be accustomed to the job assignment in
which you have to present information which promotes the product or service your
company is selling without being given a heads up. Perhaps, it is also about a
business proposal you have collaborated to write and have to discuss in front of the
Introduction investors. It could be a technical report or action research that you have been asked
to explain. As you have applied your knowledge to making a lecture and honed
your skills in its extemporaneous delivery, you become proficient in talking with
topical outline in the class. You may also be chosen to emcee a program, such as a
company foundation celebration or any festivity. How can you carry out this task
of giving a talk extemporaneously?
Choose at least five (5) advertisements and identify the common strategic
Activity
promotional techniques they share.
1. How well does the campaign address the specific needs, wants, or pain
points of the target audience?
2. How clearly does the message communicate the product or service’s unique
Analysis selling point ?
3. Which marketing channels are being used (e.g., social media, email, TV,
print)? Are they appropriate for the target audience?
4. How does the promotion align with the overall brand image and identity?
The Philippines market is flooded with new gadgets, appliances, apparel, jewelries,
accoutrement, products, and services which promote sports, gaming, music, cable
entertainment, fashion, health, food consumption, and personal improvement and
pleasure. Consumerism has powered the economy, generating wealth for the
capitalists to quench their greed and enough earnings, for the masses to meet their
needs. Competition is fierce among those who sell the same product or service and
even among those who sell a different product or service because of the expanding
market. It propels and results in a business environment that is "dynamic as such
traditional sources of competitive advantage erode rapidly, and sustaining
advantages can be a distraction from developing new ones" (Whalley, 2010).
Whalley (2010) defined marketing to broadly refer to encompass company culture
and positioning, through market research, new business/ product development,
advertising and promotion, PR (public/press relations), and arguably all of the sales
and customer service functions as well. It is a principal part of creating demand for
a product and service, which through it should be perceived as attractive, work
well, affordable, and available.
Being able to deliver a marketing spiel or business proposal presentation
extemporaneously plays a significant role in the gamut of existence of marketing.
Kurian M. Tharakan in his article A Guide to Writing an Unforgettable Elevator
Speech provides a framework, strategies, and techniques on how to do such
delivery, which are modified here as follows:
A. For marketing spiel
1. My name is/ I am____
2. I work with (Company) as (Position)
3. Our company makes (Name of product/Brand Name)

a. Identify and explain the principles, components and process of
Learning communication and the ethical consideration in communication
Outcomes b. Frame a slogan about how the knowledge of the communication
process aids people in communicating effectively
Time Frame Week 11 (1 Hour)
Turning a research paper into a visual presentation is difficult; there are pitfalls,
Introduction and navigating the path to a brief, informative presentation takes time and
practice. In this lesson, you are going to learn few tips and strategies on how to
present a research.
Activity Watch a research presentation in a research colloquium.
1. Does the presentation effectively communicate the purpose and goals of
the research?
2. Are the research methods clearly explained and appropriate for addressing
the research question?
3. How well is the data presented? Are graphs, charts, or other visual aids
Analysis
used effectively?
4. Does the flow of the presentation make it easy for the audience to follow
the research process?
5. Does the presentation explain why the research is important or relevant to
the field?
You can consider the following guidelines, based on an Acavent article (available
at [Link] in preparing for your research paper
presentation:
1. Talk to your audience as if you are telling a story. Start with the title and focus
on the main variables, explaining what has drawn you to them. The explanation
will lead you to the discussion of the principal theory that is the basis of the most
important variable. You emphasize how the theory provides the method to
addressing the main problem of the research.
2. In the Introduction you can present the principal questions that will be
addressed in the paper. Contextualize the questions by relating them to the most
important related literature and research. Maybe three or four will do this
purpose. Point out also the limitations of the study.
3. Describe the method and data collection.
Abstraction 4. Present two or three of the most important findings. Relate their relevance to
those you have included in your review of literature and studies, pointing out how
they expound or contradict them. Highlight the implications of the theoretical and
practical knowledge. Anticipate the possible questions of the audience.
5. State the important conclusions. Make your font large enough and black only,
not colorful. If possible, include keywords only and avoid cluttering the slide
with a lot of information. The number of slides should be less than ten, and the
order of slides can be as follows:
• Title with the principal theory (2 slide)
• Introduction (Research questions with important points from
literature and studies (2 slides)
• Method (1 slide)
• Data Presentation (2-3 slides)
• Conclusion with recommendation)

Deliver a Hosting Program
Outcomes
Time Frame Week 11 (1 Hour)
The success of a program rests on various components. There are the parts to be
rehearsed and improved. Professional performers can at least assure that the main
Introduction parts of the program are taken care of. There are the logistics to be managed- the
sound system, stage set up of. There are the facility, and security. Not to be
overlooked though is the role of the host of the program called the emcee, he
"plays a significant role in the success of an event (Krizan et al., 2007).
Activity Listen to a video presentation about hosting a program
1. What are the important lessons you have learned from the video?
2. What are your struggles in hosting a program?
Analysis 3. What specific steps or activities you will do to overcome your fear in
hosting a program?
4. What type of program you wished to handle as an emcee?
). If you are the host, below are some of the reminders that can improve your
according to the online article "21 Tips on How to be a Good and Effective
Emcee/Master Ceremony" (Available at [Link]
1. Prepare for an effective event opening. You cannot come out from the back
of the stage unprepared and confused.
2. Bring on stage positive and energetic vibes. You kickoff the event and keep
it rolling until blasting off at the end. You have to be infectious in energy.
3. The emcee sets the tone for the event. You know how to drive the program
through some sober, reflective, celebrating, and rapturous mood.
4. Control the timing of the proceedings. You know how to allot adequate
time for each part, not lingering, nor flying through the program.
5. Remember you are not star of the show. Your role is to bring excitement to
every performance and to make outstanding performers shine.
6. Remember to introduce yourself. You have to share yourself and life with
the audience. They have to personally meet you.
7. Always address the audience (project your voice). Let the audience hear
you speaking loudly and clearly.
8. Maintain eye contact with your audience. You can follow the suggested 'z
gaze. Start with those seated at the back from the left, if you could see their
faces, gazing to the right, then slanting to the left front, then to the right.
You can do it while looking at your notes or script.
9. Bring pace to your delivery. Not too fast, nor too slow.
10. Share key event information. You can share the background, history, and
theme of the program
11. Breathe steadily and deeply. Proper breathing relaxes and makes your voice
pleasing to hear.
12. Avoid cold drinks or spicy food before or during your time on stage. You
do not want your hosting be interrupted by coughing, or growling. Make
sure your throat and the nasal passage are clear and in good condition
during the hosting.
13. Practice, practice, practice. You should earn the confidence and Betmiration of
Abstraction the audience. You have to be too familiar with your script adminve to rehearse
your lines many times. You have to know how to deliver humorous punch lines
effectively and to be ready to improvise to bring spice and color to the program.
14. Smile, even if you don't mean it. Well, you should try to be earnest in your

Learning
Deliver an Extemporaneous Speech
Outcomes
Time Frame Week 11 (1 Hour)
When you are asked to speak about certain topic, how would you feel? In this
Introduction lesson, you will be learning about extemporaneous speech and how to handle stage
fright.
The students will watch a video presentation about an extemporaneous
Activity
speech, and prepare for an activity.
1. How well-organized is the speech? Does the speaker maintain a clear
structure (e.g., introduction, body, conclusion)?
2. How well does the speaker express key points without over-relying on
Analysis
notes or memorized content?
3. How well does the speaker adapt to the situation or audience,
considering they are speaking extemporaneously?
Though knowledgeable of your preferred topic, you should still do
research on it. Let us say you have drafted, crafted, and edited the outline
pa polished form. Everything in the content is built on a good argument
which is developed coherently. You have rehearsed the delivery many
times so that you will not miss a word. Come the actual delivery of the talk,
your heart sinks because the audience looks like not to be enjoying and
learning from you.
There may be reasons why the audience seems to judge your speech
as mediocre, such as lacking new interesting information and coming short
in the use of presentation technology. The absence of extemporaneity is,
most of the time, to be blamed also why you lose your audience. You have
been observed to not being able to settle down, not pulling away from your
outline, sounding too stilted, and having less visual contact of your
audience.
Webster’s Dictionary suggests extemporaneous as being "not
planned beforehand." When you give an extemporaneous speech, you will
be given time to research its content, write its outline, and rehearse the
manuscript. It is important to be able to give this type of speech with less
time for planning because this is how this speech is given. The ability to
organize your thoughts quickly and speak about them will be a huge asset
to you in school and later in life as you attend meetings, give presentations,
and are interviewed for jobs. In other words, you usually deliver an
extemporaneous talk. Abraham Lincoln promoted extemporaneous speech
when he remarked that "speaking should be practiced and cultivated; it is
the lawyer's avenue to the public. However, able and faithful he may be, in
other respects, people are slow to bring him business, if he cannot make a
peech" ([Link]
Extemporaneous speech can be either persuasive or or a blend of
informative and persuasive types. A good example of it w developed using
research, background knowledge, and opinion. It should start with a bang,
piquing the listener's attention and introducing the theme of the speech. The
body text contains relatively organized arguments that should meet the
expectations of the audience as to why the and introduction has caught their
attention. Information
The suggestion to deliver extemporaneously is to write down the
speech, perhaps choose the appropriate words and organize your ideas, and
