I. VERY SHORT ANSWER TYPE QUESTIONS


1. Imagine you're at a park, and you see a 1,000 kg car parked on a flat surface.
Suddenly, the driver starts the car, and it speeds up from a complete stop to
30 meters per second in just 10 seconds. What can you deduce about the
force needed to achieve this acceleration?
2. Imagine you're playing a game of tug-of-war with a friend. As you pull on
the rope with all you might, you feel the rope pulling back just as hard
against you. Why does the rope exert such a strong pull in the opposite
direction?
II. SHORT ANSWER TYPE QUESTIONS
3. When a car suddenly stops due to an emergency brake, why is it crucial for
passengers to be securely fastened in their seats to avoid serious injuries
during such sudden decelerations?
4. A hammer strikes a nail with a hammer of mass 500 g moving with a
velocity of 20 m/s. The hammer comes to rest in 0.02 s after striking the
nail. Calculate the force exerted by the nail on the hammer.
5. Why is it advised to tie any luggage kept on the roof of a bus with a rope?
6. An iron sphere of 1 kg is moving with a velocity of 20 m/s on a cemented
floor. It comes to rest after travelling a distance of 50 m. Find the force of
friction between the sphere and the floor.
III. LONG ANSWER TYPE QUESTIONS

7. How can you express Newton's second law of motion mathematically, and
what steps are involved in deriving it?
8. If a 3 kg object takes 5 seconds to slide down a 20-meter incline, what can
you determine about the force acting on the object as it moves along the
incline?
