Word Processors
1. What is a word processor?
The word processor is one of the most-used computer applications in
education. There are four primary functions of word processors:
1. composing/creating;
2. editing;
3. saving. and
4. printing.
1.1 Composing/Creating
Composing/Creating means that you can type directly into the word processor. Most
word processors have a "wrap-around" feature, which means that text automatically
is placed on the next line if it cannot all fit on the previous line.
1.2 Editing
Editing is the ability to revise what has already been typed. Editing
includes replacing words with other words, moving text to new locations,
inserting and deleting information, and using a spell-check.
The real power of word processors lies in the editing capabilities of the
software; we need to be aware of this and foster effective editing skills
among students.
1.2.1 Formatting text
You can format a document with features such as underlining,
boldfacing, italicizing, changing fonts and font sizes, colour.
You can also copy, paste, move and delete text within a document. \
You can also create and insert Tables and pictures and elements
from other soft ware
You can correct spelling and grammar
Students need to learn how to edit their documents not just for surface
changes such as spelling and changing words here and there, but rather
more structural changes such as creating better transitions and moving
paragraphs around to create a better flow.
This does not happen by itself just because students are using a word
processor. Teachers really need to focus on helping students become
better editors.
1.3 Save
Word processors allow users to save documents. Because text can be
saved, editing does not have to occur immediately.
1.4 Print
The fourth characteristic of word processors is that they allow users to
print their documents. In fact, word processors allow several printings.
2. Why use Word Processor
Word processor is one of the application software that could be used in
learning and teaching. Word processing can be integrated learning and
teaching to achieve the lesson outcomes. Table 1 illustrates word
processing packages, different application, purpose in education and their
potential to be used in various subjects

3. Word Processor for Teachers: Creating Learning and Teaching
Material
Word processor can be used in many different ways in teaching and learning. Some
of the examples that teachers can use word processor
