Abstract:

This research article examines how John Swales' CARS (Create a Research Space)
model can be used to write effective introductions for research articles. The goal is to offer
helpful strategies for writers, especially graduate students, looking to improve their
introduction-writing skills. The study analyzes various research articles, organizing them into
three groups based on their use of Swales' model. It also looks at three successful
introductions from professional writers to demonstrate how they effectively apply the three
main moves of the model. Additionally, seven articles from the English Education Journal are
analyzed to identify common practices in writing introductions. The findings suggest that the
CARS model is a useful tool for teaching how to write introductions in research settings,
providing a clear structure that can help students communicate their ideas more effectively.
Overall, this research emphasizes the importance of using the CARS framework as a guide
for academic writing.
