Exercise 15.9
Let’s Solve for Chord AB:
We know that: Chord AB
• For any chord: Now Let’s Solve for Line AB
𝜋𝑟𝜃°
𝐿𝑒𝑛𝑔𝑡ℎ 𝑜𝑓 𝐶ℎ𝑜𝑟𝑑 = • In triangle AOB, let’s take a perpendicular OD that divides the Angle
180
AOB and Line AB in Half.
So, in our question: Now in Triangle DOB
• r = 8 cm • Angle DOB = 120/2 = 60°
• And θ = 120° • sin DOB = DB/OB
• sin 60° = DB/8
Then • DB = 8 x sin 60° = 8 x √3/2 = 4√3cm
𝜋 × 8 × 120°
• 𝐿𝑒𝑛𝑔𝑡ℎ 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐶𝑜𝑟𝑑 = 180
= 16.8 𝑐𝑚 Now for AB Length
• AB = AD + DB = DB + DB = 2 DB = 2 x 4 √3
AB = 8√3cm

Exercise 15.9
Triangle ABD
• This is isosceles Triangle
For Part b. AB = ?
• Line AC makes half of Side BD and Angle BAD
• BC = CD = 1.8/2 = 0.9 cm 𝐴𝐵 = 𝐵𝐶 2 + 𝐴𝐶 2
• AC = 1.5 cm
• And Angle BAC = Angle DAC 𝐴𝐵 = 1.82 + 0.92 = 2.01 𝑐𝑚
For Part a. Angle between AB & BD For Part c. volume of tent
• In Triangle ABC
• Angle ABC = θ
• Volume = 1/2 b x h x depth
𝐴𝐶 • Volume = 1/2 BD x AC x depth
tan 𝜃 =
𝐵𝐶 • Volume = 1/2 x 1.8 x 1.5 x 3
𝐴𝐶 1.5
𝜃 = tan−1 = tan−1 = 59.0° • Volume = 4.05 cm3
𝐵𝐶 0.9

Exercise 15.9
In isosceles Triangle ABC
𝐵𝐶 = 14𝑐𝑚
𝐵𝑁 = 𝑁𝐶 = 14/2 = 7𝑐𝑚
cos 𝐴𝐶𝑁 = cos 𝐴𝐵𝑁
cos 𝐴𝐶𝑁 = 𝑁𝐶/𝐴𝐶 = 7/9
−1
7
𝐴𝑛𝑔𝑙𝑒 𝐴𝐶𝑁 = cos = 38.9°
9
𝐴𝑛𝑔𝑙𝑒 𝐴𝐶𝑁 = 𝐴𝑛𝑔𝑙𝑒 𝐴𝐵𝑁 = 38.9°
𝐴𝑛𝑔𝑙𝑒 𝐵𝐴𝐶 = 180 – 38.9 – 38.9° = 102.2°

Example of bearing between two points
Exercise 15.9
Q5 a. Bearing of S from P:
• It mean clock-wise angle from North at P to line PS
• Since Angle SPQ is 70° then Direction from North to Line PS is
• 90°-70° = 20°
Bearing of S from P is 20°.
Q5 b. Shortest Distance between SR and PQ
• Let’s draw a perpendicular from S to line PQ i.e. line SK
• SK is perpendicular to PQ and make a right angle
• In Triangle PSK
• sin 70° = SK/PS
• SK = PS x sin 70° = 300 x 0.940 = 281.9 m
Shortest distance between SR and PQ is 281.9 m
Q5 c. Area of PQRS
• Trapezium Area = ½ (a+b) x h = ½ x (250+450) x 281.9
Area of Trapezium PQRS = 98665 m2
