The best way to solve traffic congestion in cities is to provide free public transport 24 hours a
day, 7 days a week. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Nowadays, overpopulation leads to a lof of issues, one of them is the traffic jam. Some
individuals believe that the optimal solution to tackle traffic congestion in metropolises is
that free public transport should be provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Personally, I
partially agree with this sugeestion because while offering free public vehicles also has
some benefits, it also presents disadvantages which will be discussed in this essay.
On the one hand, using public transport would alleviate pressure on the natural
environment. As those vehicles have the ability to diminish the amount of poisonous
emissioins. Consequnetly, they are able to contribute to create a cleaner and fresher
environment. For example, when 20 people need to go to the office, they can use a bus
instead of driving their personal vehicles such as motorbikes and cars. Conversely, these
individual transport would increase significantly emission levels, which alleviate the quality
of the atmosphere. Moreover, the traffic congestion during rush hours can be reduced
effectively by utilizing public transportation. Because of using those vehicles, the number of
means of transpotation can be reduced, this not only results in less motorbikes and cars on
the roads but also reduce pressure on the infrastruture and during rush hours the traffic jam
is able to be resolved significantly.
On the other hand, supplying free public transportation would lead to some drawbacks.
Typically, the number of individuals whose jobs related to driving such as delivery workers or
taxi dirvers will lose jobs. When people’s travel needs can be tackled easily by going bus or
electric train, the demand for personal driving services become unneccessary, consequently,
the number of taxi drivers or motorbike drivers can lose their jobs. This would result in a lot
of people facing with the risk of unemployment, specially, with many family breadwinners,
the loss of their main income will increase the financial burdens and affect severely their
quality of life.
In consclusion, I partially agree with this view that offering free public transportation is a
potential solution. While public transport plays an important role in reducing harmful
emissions and limiting traffic congestion, however, this solution also presents some
disadvangtages, typically for many individuals whose jobs related to driving services such as
delivery workers or taxi drivers facing with the problem about losing jobs and increasing
financial burdens.
