Conversions with Powers Greater than One
Let’s say you had the following conversions to do: 10.0 cm3 to m3
First, treat this like every other conversion problem. Write the normal conversion
equivalent 1 cm = 10-2 m.
Then raise that key to the desired power (same as your problem)
(1 cm)3 = (10-2 m)3
Now let’s do the conversion:
10.0 cm3 =_________ m3
Double Conversion
Let’s say you had the following conversion: 10.0 g/mL into cg/L
First we need to rewrite the number to look like a fraction. Then we need to find the
units that match. Grams (g) and centigrams (cg) match and milliliters (mL) and liters
(L) match based on their bases.
Now we use the matching units to find our equivalent.
1 g = 100 cg = 102 cg
1 mL = 10-3 L
Now let’s plug them into conversion ratios and and solve.

Dimensional Analysis
1. Your wake board is 210 cm long. What is the length in inches?
2. In Europe gasoline is sold by the liter. Assume that it takes 14 gallons of gasoline
to fill the tank of a compact car. How many liters of gasoline will it take?
3. How much would it cost Mr. Smith to buy nails used to build a fence 125 meters
long if it requires 30 nails per meter? Assume that each box of 30 nails is $.75.
4. David Jones operates a crane for a large excavating company. David gets paid
$13.50 an hour. If he works 10 hours per day, how much does he get paid after 6
days? Assume no taxes are being taken out.
5. The running back on the Titan JV football team ran thirty-five yards for a
touchdown. How many feet did he run? How many meters did he run?
6. Jessica is having a bonfire at her house. She wants to have enough s’mores so
that all five of her friends can each have two. If each s’more takes one piece of
chocolate and each chocolate bar has 4 pieces, how many chocolate bars does
Jessica have to buy?
