Methodology
This research employed a combination of methods to examine CPUT students’ financial literacy
levels and their capacity to effectively manage their finances. The study design included an
online survey questionnaire and detailed in-person interviews.
Data Collection Methods
Survey: An online survey was designed to collect quantitative data. It included 10 questions
covering financial knowledge, budgeting practices, income management, and demographic
details. The survey was distributed to a diverse group of 8-10 students via an online platform.
Interviews: In-person interviews were conducted with 3-4 students to gather qualitative insights.
The interviews comprised three open-ended questions focusing on financial challenges, coping
strategies, and recommendations for improvement.
Research Process
The research process was divided into four stages:
[Link] Design and Pilot Testing: This stage took three days and involved creating
the questionnaire and conducting pilot tests.
2 Data Collection: Over five days, data was gathered through both online surveys and in-
person interviews.
[Link] Analysis: This stage lasted four days. Descriptive statistics were used to analyse the
survey data, while thematic analysis was applied to the interview transcripts.
[Link] and Compilation: The final stage, which took four days, involved compiling and
reporting the findings.
Reliability and Validity
To ensure reliability and validity, the questionnaire design and pilot testing were reviewed by a
lecturer. Participants provided informed consent and were assured of confidentiality.
Purpose
