Create a roadmap
Here's a simple truth: when students can see their progress and know what's
coming next, their motivation skyrockets! 🚀
That's why sharing our course plans and lesson objectives is not just helpful –
it's crucial.
So let's dive into course planning together and craft a learning roadmap that
matches students' goals and boosts their motivation to continue learning
with us.
Remember Tasnim?
She wants to participate with more confidence in her meetings with her
Japanese team. You discussed when she lacks confidence and you got more
context about her meetings. You agreed to send her a plan for her coming
lessons with some clear goals for her learning.
The goals
Feel confident to present ideas and exchange opinions.
Use a wider range of language for interrupting, disagreeing and
agreeing, describing proposals and reaching consensus.
Improve pronunciation and feel more fluent in general.
The plan
Lesson 1 Phrases to state your position or proposal, with pronunciation
and intonation, and practice
Lesson 2 Counter proposal skills: strategies and practice
Lesson 3 Practice: agreeing/disagreeing and paraphrasing + introduce
some useful vocabulary (e.g. we should take another direction,
I’m afraid that isn’t what we had in mind, we have reservations
on that point, etc)
Lesson 4 Review: vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar corrections
from previous lessons + review of useful modal verbs (e.g. I
don't think we should, I think we may want to go in another
direction...)
Lesson 5 Politeness: listening exercise to discuss strategies for bargaining
and reaching consensus
Lesson 6 Polite phrases to reach consensus, with pronunciation and
intonation, and practice
Lesson 7 Practise phrases to reach a consensus
Lesson 8 Assessment
🤔
How would you assess Tasnim's progress in Lesson 8? Brainstorm some ideas
and share them in the discussion.
We'll come back to assessment later in the course.
