CSCE352- Lab - 2024-03

Lab Project Title:


Cross-Platform Comparison of 10 Common OS Commands
Mini-project Operating Systems Lab. This task is simple, educational, and demonstrates command-line
similarities across UNIX/Linux and Windows OS environments.

To demonstrate the use of 10 commonly used commands on Linux/Unix and Windows


Command Prompt (CMD), observe their outputs, and analyze their similarities/differences.

Project Requirements:
1. Two environments:
o Linux/Unix terminal (Ubuntu/WSL/Virtual Machine/Online terminal like
OnWorks)
o Windows CMD or PowerShell
2. 10 similar commands across both OS platforms
3. For each of the 10 commands:
o Run the command on both terminals.
o Observe and record the output.
o Take screenshots of the command and output in both OSes.
o Note any differences in syntax, output format, or usage.

Project Output:
1. A short report or document
o Title and your name. 5-8 pages
o Brief intro (half page ).
o A table or list showing:
 Command purpose.
 Syntax in Linux.
 Syntax in Windows.
 Screenshots for each command.
 Notes (if any differences).

Note:

Form groups of 3 to 4 students.


 Follow the instructions provided in the attached file.
 Each group must demonstrate the use of 10 common OS commands on both
Linux/Unix and Windows CMD.
 The output (screenshots) and a short comparison report must be submitted as part of your
deliverables.
 A brief report (PDF or Word format)
 Screenshot evidence for all commands on both platforms
 Group member names and IDs

Submission is before 3 August. Presentation will be conducted on August 5 ,Tuesday
