RESEARCH DEFENSE SCRIPT

Slide 1 – Opening / Introduction

Good afternoon, respected panelists.

I am Giselle Galleto, together with my group mates and we are here to present our study entitled

Title: Leisure Trends: Measuring Demand for Leisure-Based Service Businesses Among
Senior High School Students

Slide 2 – Background of the Study

In recent years, senior high school students have faced increasing levels of psychological
stress from academics, social responsibilities, and personal expectations.
Research shows that balancing academic work with leisure activities improves mental health,
reduces stress, and even boosts academic performance.

However, in our own school and community, it is underexplored.

Na noticed namon nga when it comes to food or products damo pililian ang mga students. Kag
super competitive. Example ma kaon kami beh. Diin ta makaon. Pwede sa Jollibee, Mang
Inasal, sa Food court, sa Canteen, sa Kalenderya. Diin ta nga Coffee Shop. Damo coffee shop. Ma
bakal products. Diin ta ma bakal? Pwede sa SM, Puregold, Shoebox, JBC.

Pero when it comes to leisure or relaxation wala mayo. Kung may mang hagad “relax ta, lagaw
ta”. Diin? Wala mandi lagawan sa cadiz. Amo gid na pirme nga sabat. Ara park, children,
Citymall. Yawan pa hulat sang microphone sa citymall para mag karaoke tapos for kids only lang
ang mga arcades. So wala kami mayo stress reliever. Pirme gid na namon ma experience kag ma
noticed man sa iban.

Slide 2 – Statement of the Problem

The purpose of this study is to identify demand for leisure-based service businesses among high
school students at Dr. Vicente Gustilo National High School for the academic year 2025–2026.
Specifically, it seeks to answer the following:
Title: School-Based Business Opportunities: Identifying Consumer Demand at Dr. Vicente
Gustilo National High School

Slide 2 – Background of the Study

Inside our school, vending culture is very active—sellers sell snacks, drinks, school supplies, and
services like printing.

But the problem is most sellers operate blindly.

They rely on guesswork, selling what they think students want, instead of what’s actually in
demand. This leads to wasted capital, unsold inventory, lost opportunities and competition over
the same products.

Students also suffer.

When their preferred products or services aren’t available, they either settle for less satisfying
alternatives or buy outside, wasting time during short breaks.

Lastly, we noticed that no previous research in our school has ever measured exactly what
products or services students demand, it's frequency, and when they want it.

Our study here is to solve these gaps

Slide 3 – Statement of the Problem

Our study aims to identify school-based business opportunities through demand analysis,
focusing exclusively on student consumers across different demographic profiles at Dr. Vicente
Gustilo National High School. It seeks to determine which products or services are in demand
but currently unavailable, how frequently they are desired, and when they are most needed.

Specifically, it aims to answer the following questions:

Thank you for your attention, and we are now ready to answer your questions.
