HPP Hydrâulic Power Pack (106) Technical iilanual

\,#
1. General Description
The HPP Hydraulic Power Pack has been designed to supply hydraulic power to valve
remotê control systems in the marine applications.
All the criticâl aspects and requirements of the marine application have been taken into
consideration in it design, wlth the application in particular of two fundamental concepts:
o SINGLE FAILURE - i.e. a single failure in either the hydraulic or electrlcal parts of the
power pack must not compromise the operation of the system.
To comply with this concept, all the critical components installed on the power pack
have been made redundant.

' DRAINING of hydraulic components has been reduced to a minimum, guaranteeing

accumulator loading for a long time, even in the absence of electrical power supply.
This results in increased system security and rower maintenance costs.

2 Application
Valve remote control system.

3 Features
Redundancy of all critical components
Redundant power supply
2 Accumulators as standard
Limited size
Very low drainage of hydraulic components
Low maintenance costs
Full diagnostics

4. HPP Description
The HPP power pack is formed by a 17O-litre tank to which two gear pumps operated by 3-
phase electric motors, the manifolds housing all the hydraulic and control components,
and the oil delivery and return pipes are fitted.
Two accumulators are fitted to the rear of the tank, guaranteeing the operation of the
valves, even in the absence of the electrical power supply.
The power pack's electrical control box is installed in the front section.
The main components of the power pack are described below.

4.1. P Manifold
All the hydraulic components for loading the accumulators and for the delivery pressure to
the system are installed in the P manifold.
As mentioned above, the power pack has been designed in keeping with the SINGLE
FAILURE concept, so all the critical components are redundant.
ln particular, the following are redundant:
o The pumps
. The filters (PF1-PF2)
. The accumulators
o The relief valves (RV1-RV2)
. The pump control pressure transmitters (PT1-PTz)
. The pressure reducing valves (MPRV-RPRV)
The reserve pressure reducing valve RPRV is normally off. ln the event of a failure in the
main reducing valve MPRV, valves lV4 and lVS must be closed in order to turn off the
main reducing valve, and valves lV2 and lV3 opened to put the reserve reducing valve
RPRV into operation.

4.2. T Manifold
The system return pipe is connected to the T Manifold. The components installed on
the manifold filtering the oil before it is discharged into the tank, and maintain the
discharge branch pipe T at a pressure of approx. 5 Bar.
Sensor PF3 checks the condition of the filter so that a warning is generated before it
becomes obstructed advising that the filter cartridge must be replaced.
IMPORTANT: if the filter is not replaced following this warning, the system could be
put out of operation. n
ln case of emergency, the filter can be excluded by opening valve lV8. This operation
must only be performed in the event of an EMERGENCY, AN not for an extended
period of time

4.3. Starter Unit

As mentioned above, the power pack has been designed and built to comply with the
single failure concept.
The power pack can operate in two modes:
. AUTOMATIC : The two pumps is controlled from the Smart-MCU
. MANUAL: The pumps have to be manually selected by S3-S4 The pressure
switch PMS, directly control the pump. The pump start at 180 Bar and stop at
210 Bar.
ln case of failure the pressure switch PMS, can be bypassed by selector Sí
installed inside of the cabinet. When the PMS sensor is excluded the pump
running continuously therefore are important that the operator manually stop the
pumps when the accumulator are full.

As well as the switches and warning lights, a touch screen is fitted on the front of the
cabinet.
The touch screen communicates serially with the MCU, and is used to display the
status of the power pack, to keep a record of events, to provide indications on
programmed maintenance, and to modify MCU setup parameters.
ln order to guarantee single failure compliance, the power pack must have two
independênt 3X440 vac 50/60 Hz power supplies.
The power pack can be hard-wired to the automation system or have a serial
connection option. ln both cases, the automation cannot stop or re-start the power
pack; it can only read the information. This is because the power pack has been
designed as a stand-alone system, and the start and stop commands only represent
a potential system failure.
On request, remote-controlled start and stop controls can be enabled.

6.2. Pipe Connection

The power pack must be connected to the system by means of two high pressure
hydraulic pipes.
A /2" valve has been fitted to the power pack for the pressure branch pipe P. For this
manifold we recommend using a 16x2mm pipe.
A/;' valve has been fitted to the power pack for the discharge branch pipe T. For this
manifold we recommend using a 22x2,smm pipe.
Pipes with a larger diameter may be necessary in special cases. A layout is supplied
for each system in which the diameters of the two pipes to be used are indicated.

6.3. OilFilling
The power pack must be filled or topped up only by using the special 10-micron filter
installed on the power pack (02 Loading Filter).
A manual or electrical pump with a /z' male fitting to connect to the filter must be
used to fill or top up the power pack.
lM PORTANT: The introduction oÍ oil which has not been filtered using the special
filter may damage some components of the power pack and compromise the
operation of the power pack, the safety of the system, and the guarantee.

6.4. Start-UP
The first start-up procedure on the power pack must only be carried out by
specialized personnel from Rizzio Spa.

HSVC Hydraulic Solenoid Valve Cabinet (r04) Technical Manual

\/
1. General Description
The HSVC (Hydraulic solenoid Valve cabinet) combined with Hpp (hydraulic power pack)
is a stand-alone systêm for controlling valves with hydraulic actuators in the marine
application.
All the critical aspects and requirements of the marine application have been taken into
consideration in its design, with the application in particular of three fundamental concepts:

Ü SINGLE FAILURE - i.e. a single failure in either the hydraulic or electrical parts
of the
power pack must not compromise the operation of the system.

\-z ! DRATNTNG of hydrauric components has been reduced to a minimum, guaranteeing

lower consumption of hydraulic pressure.
A solution called RPC (Reduce Pressure Consumption) has been
developed to further
reduce the consumption of hydraulic pressure when there
are no commands to the
valves.

f, TWo voLUMETRTc METERS have been instailed for each varve.

This guarantees
extra precision in the remote reading of the position of the varve,
but above-a it
prevents any problems relatíng to false indications
of the position of valves, even ín the
event of the failure of one of the volumetric meters.

The system is interfaced with the automation by means

of a redundant communication
BUS in hot backup, and a hard-wired interface is arso
avairabre for each varve to contror
the valve from a mimic or a security systêm.

4. HSVC Description
The HSVC is formed by a metal structure to which a cabinet containing
the valve control
electronics and a service terminal for local control are fitted, as
well as a manifold with the
solenoid valves and volumetric meters, and an end manifold to
which the p and T pipes -
which are connected to the Hpp hydraulic power pack - are connected.
32 valves can be connected to each HSVC.
The main components of the power pack are described below.

4.1. Solenoid Valve & VolOil Manifold

The modular manifold is designed to control four valves,
making a maximum of 32
valves on a rack.
Two volumetric meters, two magnetic sensors, two regulators
and 1ow on-off valves,
a solenoid valve and a system fluxing block are installed
for each control point on the
manifold.
As mentioned above, the system has been designed specifically for
marine
application' The components have not been adapted for
this application from other
industries. Each component has been specially conceived
and built for the marine
application.
This ensures a safer, more reliable solution with lower maintenance
costs.

Page 5 I 14
n|lzzlo
HSVC Hydraulic Solenoid Valve Cabinet (r04) Technical Manuat

Special attention has been given to the volumetric meter used to provide remote
e.P
readings of the position of the valve. This innovative solution for the marine
application gives the following advantages:
! 2o/o maximum position reading error
n Elimination of possible false position indications
n No maintenance due to the elimination of friction
Further details are available in the Voloil volumetric meter manual.
There are two 3/8" fittings on the rear of the manifold for the connection of the
hydraulic pipes to the actuator and one fitting for the flushing of the system.
The flushing fitting must be used on system start-up to ensure that any dirt in the
pipes does not enter the system and compromise its correct operation.

4.2. Ending manifold

An End Manifold is installed on each rack to distribute the P and T branch pipes to
the manifold connected above.
The PIV and TIV valves are used for manual cut off of the P and T branch pipes.
The optional COV, PRV and PSV valves are used for the RPC (Reduction Pressure
Consumption) function, which reduces the oil pressure consumption when there are
no commands to the valves.
The RPC function further increases the safety of the system as it extends
accumulator load times without starting the pumps, and is extremely useful for
systems that remain inoperative for a long period of time, preventing the system from
cutting out as generally happens when this function is not present.
The RPC function is controlled by the TAC-S control card installed in the cabinet, and
is fully compliant with the single failure concept.
There are two holes on the rear of the manifold for the connection of the p and T
branch pipes to the HPP (Hydraulic power pack).

TAC-S SAC-S-COM (106) Technical Manual

1. Overyiew
TAC-S technology is a VRCS (Valve Remote Control System) that interfaces with the IAS
(lntegrated Automation System), with Mimic Diagram or with ESD (Emergency Shut Down)
System,
TAC-S technology has been developed for both Cruise and Mercantile Vessels. This
technology is suitable for controlling hydraulic actuated valves systems (i.e. with a
centralized Hydraulic Power Unit).

Fig, 1 - TAc-s Motherboard with one TAC-s (yeilow) and one TAC-s-coM (Red)

Our solution is made up by the following key elements:

o Cabinet and power Supply
o TAC-S MB Motherboard
o TAC-S-COM digital communication card
o TAC-S digital valve control cards
The TAC-S MB Motherboard can hold one TAC-S-COM card and up to 16 TAC-S cards,
thus controlling up to 16 valves. Usually two such Motherboards are installed in every
cabinet.
The key characteristics of this solution are:
. High service availability (redundant power supply, redundant digital communication
with the lntegrated Automation System, hot-swappable cards)

2. Cabinet and Cards

The cabinet serves as a container for all of our solution: Power Subsystem, Motherboard,
Cards, connectors are located into the cabinet.
The communication is controlled by the TAC-S-COM cards that connect to the IAS via two
redundant ModBus buses (Main and Backup).
One optional Configuration Touchscreen can be installed on the Cabinet's door and
connected to all TAC-S-COM cards.

2.1. Feedback
The valve position Feedback type affects heavily the design of Cabinet and
configuration of Cards:

2.',l.,,1. lndirect valve position measurement

This solution is applicable only with Traditional systems, i.e. when an
Hydraulic Power Unit is installed and the valve is actuated by controlling
its Solenoid Valve.

Page 4 I 14
TAC-S SIAC-S-COM (106) Technical Manual

a ln this case the valve position is measured indirectly by monitoring the

amount of oil that is received from the actuator with our high performance
volumetric oil sensor VOLOIL by our ENCODER-S sensor.
a One VOLOIL and its corresponding ENCODER-S sensor is installed on
the A branch of the oil pipe and another one is installed on the B branch.
a The high accuracy of the VOLOIL enables this solution to detect any oil
leakage in the oil pipes and provides a very accurate valve position
indication without the need for any electrical component in the field.

2.1.2. Direct valve position mêasurement

a Under this configuration a FBKU is installed on the shaft of the valve.
FBKU is our patented active position indication device.
a This device has no mechanical parts in movement and cannot be affected
by any environmental factor, such as electromagnetic interferences,
mechanicalwear out or calibration and has a MTBF > 30 years.
a The accuracy of this device is extremely high, in fact the expected error is
<0.019
a The FBKU is powered by the 24Ydc, and the feedback can be either 4-
20mA (for throttling valves) or two-wire 24Ydc (for ON/OFF valves).

TAC-S SIAC-S-COM (106) Technical Manual

2.2. Cabinet
The Power Supply Subsystem takes two independent sources that are EMI Filtered:
one Main 230Vac is transformed into 24Ydc and generates the Main 24Vdc Power
Feed; one Backup 24Ydc is taken from the Backup Battery System.
Two Fuses (one per each feed) are provided for extra protection.
The Motherboard is where all the cards are installed:
. Receives the power feeds and propagates them trough all the cards
. Connects with the IAS digital ModBus buses
o Colds one TAC-S-COM card
. Holds up to 16 TAC-S cards and connects their feedbacks

3. TAC-S-COM
One TAC-S-COM card equips each motherboard and handles the communication with all
the 16 TAC-S cards from one side, and the IAS from the other.
It can also be connected to the Touchscreen for setup and Maintenance.
A number of LEDs are visible from one side and show the status of the card.

Fig.5-TAC-S-COMcard

3.1. Microprocessors
Every TAC-S-COM is equipped with two Microprocessors:
o Master Microprocessor handles communication with the IAS via two RS-485
serial ports (Main and Backup) talking in ModBus protocol.
The serial ports are handled by UART 1 and UART 2 respectively. This
Microprocessor also supervises the power supply.
o Slave Microprocessor handles communication with the 16 TAC-S, and with the
Service Plug (not used under normal operation).
The UART 1 communicates with the 16 TAC-S cards and UART 2 with the Plug
Connector.

3.2. Communication
. When a command string is received from the IAS ModBus, its logic address is
converted into the physical address of the corresponding TAC-S, and then the
command transmitted.
. When a reply is received from the TAC-S it is packed back into ModBus and
transmitted to the lAS.
. The two RS-485 are redundant on each other. ln case of failure of any of the
two, the IAS is informed via the working channel and operation continues
uninterrupted.
. All the communication channels with the outside world have galvanic isolation.
o Whenever a TAC-S-COM is substituted, will compare old card settings with new
card settings, and shows "Database error" if different. Operator will choose to
update TAC-S ('SAVE DATA'), or update TAC-S-COM ("UPLOAD DATA").

3.3. Power Supply

. Each TAC-S-COM card receives the two independent 24Vdc Power Feeds from
the Power Subsystem, EMI filters it and generates two internal feeds, one SVdc
for the board itself and one 24Vdc for the l/Os.
o The Power Feeds are continuously controlled by the Master Microprocessor and
in case of failure of any of the two, the IAS is informed, whilst operation can
continue with the working feed.
. An automatic Changeover takes the feed preferably from the Main 24Vdc. Each
TAC-S-COM has a power consumption of 100mA.
. A Current Limiter protects against Short Circuits and an EMI filter controls
electrical interferences.

3.4. Connectors
There are two connectors:
. P1 Service Plug (on the Front Panel) for Commissioning and internal use only
. P3 Side connector has one serial line (umper selectable between RS485 or
RS232) to connect either a Touchscreen or a Keyboard used to configure the
TAC-S-COM and the 16 TAC-Ss.

3.5. Side Panel

From the left side are visible 16 LEDs in two rows. The LEDs in the first column are
Red and report the activity of the Master Microprocessor, while the ones in the
second column are Yellow and report the activity of the Slave Microprocessor:

4. TAC.S
Each TAC-S digital card controls one single valve, its
feedbacks and interconnects with the IAS via the TAC-S-COM
or, optionally, directly trough a Hardwire lnterface.
,
\
A number of LEDs on the Front Panel and others visible from
one side, report the operating status of the card. Fig.7 - TAC-S card
Furthermore every card can be controlled locally via 3 simple
Push Buttons.

4.1. Microprocessors
Up to three Microprocessors are installed on every TAC-S.
Main, supervises the valve and the Power Supply.
Slave 1 and 2, are installed when the card is configured for TAC systems and they
control directly the signal received from the two ENCODER-S.

4.2. Communication
The Main Microprocessor communicates with the TAC-S-COM via the Motherboard
bus. Every TAC-S card is assigned a physical address automatically by its position
on the Motherboard.
Whenever a TAC-S is substituted, TAC-S-COM will compare old card settings with
new card settings, and shows "Database error'' if different.
Operator will choose to update TAC-S ("SAVE DATA'), or update TAC-S-COM
(,UPLOAD DATA'),

4.3. Power Supply

Each TAC-S card receives the two independent 24Vdc Power Feeds from the Power
Subsystem, EMI filters it and generates two internal feeds, one SVdc for the board
itself and one 24Vdc Íor the l/Os. The Power Feeds are continuously conholled by
the Master Microprocessor and in case of failure of any of the two, the TAC-S-COM
is informed, whilst operation can continue with the working feed An automatic
Changeover takes the feed preferably from the Main 24Vdc.
Each TAC-S-COM has a power consumption of 150mA, whilst each solenoid valve
requires 1,2A when operated and each E-ACT can absorb a maximum of 600W
when operated. A contemporanei§ factor of 5 is realistic per every 16 valves group.
As for the feedback, each FBKU requires 25mA, and each Zener barrier requires
25mA more.
A Current Limiter protects against Short Circuits and an EMI filter controls electrical
interferences.

VolOilVolumetric Oil Sensor (R02) Technical Manual

1. General Description
VolOil is a volumetric sensor designed to measure the amount of oil passing through a
hydraulic circuit.
ln particular the sensor has been designed to indirectly detect, with extreme precision, the
position of hydraulic actuators used in remote control valve systems.

2. Application
o Detection of the position of hydraulic actuators
o Liter meter for viscous liquids

\-/ 3. Features
. No seal subject to wear
. High volumetric performance
. Extreme precision with very low flows
o Maintenance free

4. VolOil Sensor Description

The VolOil is formed by a casing containing the gears, and a cover housing a sensor
called Encoder-S, which detects the movement of the gears and generates two digital
signals, the first of which supplies impulses in proportion to the flow of oil, while the second
gives the direction of the oil.
The VolOil comes with a standard lSO4401-03 CETOP-RP-121H-03 (CETOP3) interface.

VRCS 2006 (r03) Operator Manual

1. Generaldescription
The Valve Remote Control System (VRCS) is a stand-alone system, i.e. thê systêm
control is not delegated to others, as it is for the automation, but it is fully carried out by the
system itself.
This feature provides the system with the possibili§ to operate autonomously and to be
not involved in failures caused by other units.
The system is interfaced with various control posts managed by a priority control.
Hereinafter we list the control posts and priorities:
o Hardwired lnterface, Mimics or ESD (highest priority, managed on every single valve
by activating the LOC/REM channel);
. TAC-S card (priori§ managed on every single valve by means of the pushbuttons
placed on the TAC-S card front panel);
. "Service Terminal' ST (priori§ managed per valve group in commissioning mode or
per single valve in normal mode by a ST selection);
o Automation with double Serial BUS (lowest priori§: the post is automatically under
control, should no other post be controlled).

The VRCS may be equipped with two §pes of feedback:

. With a direct measurement through FKBU.
. With an indirect measurement through two volumetric meters named VolOil

2. Control posts

2.1. Hardwired control

Every valve is controlled by a card named TAC-S, which provides for a hardwired
interface with a valve controlling mimics or ESD system. By this interface it is not
possible to partialize a valve, but only to provide for full opening and closing
commands.
The HW command is a priori§ one with respect to all other control posts, the post is

in control, when the LOC/REM input contact is closed.

The HW interface signals towards the TAC-S card are the following:

2.2. Commands from TAC-S

Every valve is controlled by a card named TAC-S. 5 leds and 3 pushbuttons are
provided on it to control and monitor the valve status. ln this case too it is not
possible to partialize the valve, but only to provide for full opening and closing
commands.
The operation of the leds and pushbuttons present on the TAC-S front panel varies in
function of the mode the TAC-S card is operating in, the modes may be the following:

2.2-1. operate the valve from the TAC-s card in Normal Mode:
ln this mode the leds and the pushbuttons present on the TAC-S card front
panel work as a standard control post. The mode shall be selected by
means of
the service Terminal. Hereinafter its operation is described:
o LOC/REM pushbutton: By pressing the pushbutton the TAC-S control is
enabled or disabled.

' LOCAL yellow led: When the led is on it means that the card is enabled
as control post.

STATUS red led: When the led is off it signals that there are no active
alarms or warnings. When the led is steadily on it signals that one or
more warnings are active. When the led blinks slowly it signals that one
or more alarms are active. When the led blinks quickly it signals that one
or more warnings and one or more alarms are active.
CLOSE pushbutton. By pressing the pushbutton the command of full
closing is performed. lt is sufficient a one-second pressing of the
pushbutton. Every time the pushbutton is pressed the card starts a
closing sequence independently from the fact whether the valve is

already closed or there is an alarm or a warning (with the exception of a

cumulative autorange).
OPEN pushbutton. By pressing the pushbutton the command oÍ full
opening is executed. lt is sufficient a one-second pressing of the
pushbutton. Every time the pushbutton is pressed the card starts an
opening sequence independently from the fact whether the valve is
already open or theÍe is an alarm or warning (with the exception of a
cumulative autorange).
CLOSE red led. The led on indicates that the valve is closed, when it
blinks the led signals that there is a closing command active.
Yellow led. Vvhen the led is on it means that the valve in an intermediate
position.
OPEN green led. When the led is on it indicates that the valve is open,
when it blinks the led signals that an opening command is active.

2.2.2. Operate the valve from the TAC-S card in Commissioning

Mode
ln this mode the pushbuttons present on the TAC-S card front panel execute
permanent opening and closing commands independently from the valve
position. The mode is selected by the Service Terminal. Their operation is
described hereinafter:
o LOC/REM pushbutton.

Page 6 / 52
VRCS 2006 (r03) Operator Manuâl

By pressing the pushbutton the active closing or opening command is

immediately removed.
o LOCAL yellow led.
ln this mode the LOCAL led does not have any function.
. STATUS red led.
When the led is off it signals that there are no active alarms or warnings.
When the led is steadily on it signals that there is one or more active
warnings.
When the led blinks slowly it signals that one or more alarms are active.
When the led blinks quickly it signals that one or more warnings or one or
more alarms are active.
. CLOSE pushbutton.
By pressing the pushbutton the permanent closing command is executed.
The command is kept up to the moment when you will choose to execute an
inverse command or to interrupt the command by the LOC/REM pushbutton.
. OPEN pushbutton.
By pressing the pushbutton the permanent opening command is executed.
The command is kept up to the moment when you will choose to execute the
inverse command or to interrupt the command by the LOC/REM pushbutton.
o CLOSE red led.
The led blinks all the time when the command is active. Should the feedback
be volumetric, a "Feedback missed" alarm is generated (which could be
restored only by an autorange or a feedback re-alignment).
. Yellow led.
When the led is on it signals that the valve is in an intermediate position.
. OPEN green led.
The led blinks all the time when the command is active. Should the feedback
be volumetric, a "Feedback missed" alarm is generated (which could be
restored only by an autorange or a Íeedback re-alignment).

3.3.5. Air Draining function

The Air Draining function is a function which is usually employed during the unit
commissioning. This function provides for filling the pipes and the actuator with
oil (for discharging all the air).
Should further to maintenance or failures the hydraulic pipes be disconnected it
is abso necessarv to reoeat the ir Drainino D re!! This
provides for a proper control and detection of the valve position.
Please note: this function is enabled onry in commissioning Mode
All the elements being part of the Air Draining page are described hereinbelow

counter starts counting at the procedure starting.
(C) Value in oil litres (in case of VolOil sensor) or time in seconds (in
all other
cases) that shall elapse to complete a part of the sequence.
To change the value, press on the white rectangular frame. A page will open
where the change can be provided.
For the service PC this value is included in the setup page.
once the value has been changed, the data will appear red and blinking, this
means that the value has not been saved yet (on the service PC they are yellow
and steady).
To save it and make it operative go to the sETUp page and press the sAVE

Page 30 / 52
VRCS 2006 (r03) Operator Manual

The oil quanti§ in litres and the time in minutes shall be set in function of the oil
quantity necessary to fill the unit. lt depends on the pipes diameter and length;
as well as on the actuator size. This parameter is usually set during
commissioning, in any case, should be necessary to change it, whatever is the
reason, do not enter values lower than 5 litres of oil and 3 minutes.
Note: the wordings OIL CC and SET LITRES change automatically to MINUTE
and SET MINUTE in function of the type of selected feedback.

should a permanent command be performed on a valve equipped with a
feedback Voloil, a feedback missed alarm of is generated.
To reset this alarm it is necessary to repeat the Autorange procedure or the
feedback realignment procedure.
Please note: This function is enabled only in commissioning Mode,

3.3.7. Autorange function

The Autorange function provides for the acquisition by the TAC-S card of all the
parameters of oil quanti§ necessary for an opening and closing manoeuvre in
case of VolOil feedback or of mA values at a closed and open valve with an
analogy feedback unit installed direcfly on the valve.
This function is executed during the unit commissioning and it shall be executed
again in the following cases:
Replacement of the analogy feedback unit installed on the valve.
change of the valve manoeuvring angle through the relevant adjustment on the
actuator.
Disconnection and re-connection oÍ the hydraulic pipes.

should the TAC-s card be replaced it is not necessary to repeat the Autorange
as the new card assumes the configuration data direcfly from the TAc-s-coM
card (through the "SAVE DATA" command).
Please note: this function is enabled only in the Commissioning Mode.
All the elements being part of the Autorange page are llsted hereinafter:
(A) Start pushbutton to start the procedure.
(B) Reset pushbutton to reset the pulse counters.
(C) Stop pushbutton to stop the procedure.

Every valve has a setup page with the configuration val ues
resident on the card
itself (memorized on the Eeprom). Furthermore the same data
are resident on
the TAC-s-coM card to recover them whenever a failure takes place.
For instance in case of failure/replacement of the TAC-S card
the data may be
recovered from the TAC-s-coM card (by the,SAVE DATA, command).
Should the TAC-S-COM card be replaced the data may be recovered
from the
TAC-S card (by the "UpLOAD DATA,'command).
For a major clarity 'SAVE DATA' means 'SAVE DATA To rAC-s,,, while
"UPLOAD DATA' means .UPLOAD DATA FROM TAC_S".
The TAC-S-COM card has the task to provide for a periodic comparison
of the
data, should one or more differences be found (due to the replacing
of one or
more cards or simply to a change to any setup parameter), a warning is

Page 35 i 52
VRCS 2006 (r03) Operator Manual

generated and in the TAC-S-COM status it is indicated as 'Database Error,'.

Furthermore, the data that turn out to be different on the two cards shall be red
and blinking on the setup page (instead on the service pC they will be yellow
and steady).

The data memorized on the TAC-S-COM card are usually viewed on the setup
page; to view the data memorized on the TAC-S card in every moment it is
sufficient to keep the TAC-DATA pushbutton pressed and after some seconds
at the left top of the page under the wording ,,Mode setup,' the text ,,TAC
Database" will be viewed and the viewed data shall be those which are
memorized on the TAC-S card.

Please note: when the data memorized on the two cards differ one another the
TAC-S card uses the data memorized on the card itself.
Then the operator shall decide whether to use the data saved on the TAC_S_
COM card or not (SAVE DATA) or keep the data on the TAC-S card (UPLOAD
DATA),

PaV attention tg the SAVE DATA and UPLOAD DATA p ushbuttons

when you press one of these pushbuttons you are going to ovenrvrite data,
when you enter SAVE DATA you will take the data from the TAC_S-COM card
and you will ovenurite them on the TAC-S card, when you press the UpLOAD
DATA pushbutton you will do the contrary.
When do you need to use these two pushbuttons?
Should you have changed the parameters and you want to make them
operative use "SAVE DATA".
Should you have replaced the TAC-S card, use,SAVE DATA,.
Should you have replaced the TAC-S-COM card, [Link] DATA".

For every TAC-S-COM it is possible to monitor the database status on a single page.
For instance this page is useful when a TAC-S-COM card is being replaced or when
it is simply necessary to carry out a download or an upload on more than one card of
the same TAC-S-COM.
ln detail:
. Download ALL: lt is equivalent to carry out a "SAVE DATA' on each of the single
TAC-S cards connected with the TAC-S-COM.
. upload ALL: lt is equivalent to carry out a 'upLoAD DATA' on each of the
single TAC-S cards connected with the TAC-S-COM.

4. Cards replacement
The replacement of the cards on a TAC-S unit is very simple.
Provided that all the TAC-s and rAC-s-coM cards are equal they can be replaced or
inverted without any problem. The difference is provided by the jumpers that on every card
configure addresses, §pe of feedback and type of configuration. Hereinafter you will see in
detail how to configure the cards.

4.1. Replacement of the TAC-S card

As previously said all the TAC-s cards are equal unlike the position of the jumpers on
them which defines the type of input feedback. Hereinafter you will see all the types
of feedback, the connections on the Motherboard (the board which al the TAC-s
cards are connected with) and the setting of the jumpers on the TAC_S.
To replace the TAC-S card with a new one carry out the following:
í. Dismantre the ord rAC-s card (the one you want to reprace) from the MB
2. Dismantle the new TAC-S card Írom its 'housing" to check whether the
jumpers are praced according to the type of feedback
to be read (refer to the
following sections to configure these jumpers). lt is necessary to remove
the
two screws anchoring the card to its ,,housing,,).
3. once their position is checked, you can reprace the card in its housing and
remount everything on the MB.
IÀ/PORTANT!I! Sh ould th e feedback be Vol Oil it is very imo ortant that the
um ers are ro erl set. Should the not be confl ured in this wa the VolOil
sensors will be o ermanentlv damao ed and thev shall be reo laced
4 Go to the detail page of the replaced card, there a warning of ,,Database
erroi'will be viewed (caused by the fact that the new card will not have the
same software setting of the old one). Go to the setup page of the same card
and carry out a "sAVE DATA". rn this way ail the data on the ord card (sti[
memorized on the TAC-S-COM card) will be memorized on the new TAC_S
card. ln case a'uPLOAD DATA" is carried out due to whatever reason, aI the
data shall be modified manually (one at a time), then a,,SAVE DATA,'will be
repeated and then a new 'AUTORANGE,, will be eventually carried out.

5. Specialfunctions
There are some useful functions that can be used in every moment; some of them require
a particular attention as they can change the normal functioning of the card.

5.1. Utility
It is possible to enter the "Setup" mode where a series of functions may be executed
and another series of operations carried out.
You can access to this mode in two different ways:

1 Keeping the LOC-REM pushbutton on the TAC-S card pressed for at least 5
seconds.
2 Keeping the "Arrow Up" pushbutton in the alarm area pressed (only for the
Service Terminal).

You can escape from this mode in two ways:

1. Pressing the LOC-REM pushbutton on the TAC-S
2. scrolling the list beyond the menu first item (by the alarms scrolling arrows on
the Terminal)

The function is independent for every TAC-s card, the access is confirmed by a text
"General lnfo ..." viewed instead of the active command and by a different viewing
frequency of the leds placed on the front panel of the card itself.
All the items of this menu will be described hereinafter (they can be selected by the
Up and Down arrows in the alarms section).

DescdltÍlon :
TAC-S is a Valve Remote Control System that may be rnterfaced rvith the lntegrated Automation
System with mimic diagram or Emergency Shut Down system. This technology rs suitable for
controlling hydÍaulic âctuated valves systems (i.e. with a centÍalized hidraulic power unit).
electro-hidraulic valve systems (where every valve has its orvn electro-hydraulic unif) or mixed
configurations wherc both syslems are present.

TAC-S Cabinet comprises:

- Power supply,
- TAC-S MB Mothcrboard
- TAC-S- COM digital communisation card (Rcdundant ModBus)
- TAC-S digital valve control cards.

Every TAC-S-COM is equipped with rwo Microprocessors:

- Masler microprocessor handles communication with the IÁs via two RS-4g5 senal port (mail
and back-up) talking ín ModBus prorocol.
The serial ports are handled by UARTI and UART2 repcctively. This microprucessor also
supen,ises the [Link] supply.
- Slave processor handles communicâtion with the l6 TAC-S an<t with the service plug. UART I
communicates with ló'l'AC-S cards and UART2 with the plug connector.

-l'he
I'AC-S MB Motheóoard can hold one TAC-s-coM card and up to l6 TAC-S cards, thus
controlling up to l6 r,alves.
Valve position can be measured:
- indirectly. by nronitoring the amount ol'oil thal is rerceived lrom the acruator hy volumctric oil
sensor
- directly, by I.'BKU position measuring optical module , powered 24vdc ,4-20mA outpur

The power supply subsystem takes two independent $rurces that areEMI liltererl:
- one Mâin 230Vac is transformed into 24Vdc and generalcs the main 24Vdc power l'ced,
- one Backup 24Vdc is taken fronr the UPS Baekup banery system
