6 Rules of normal development
- Continuous starting from utero
- CNS maturity is the major determinant
- CephaloCaudal and ProximoDistal Progression
- Primitive Reflexes must be lost for the normal development to continue
- Initial Reflexes are general and crude and become more complex gradually
- Similar sequence occurs in all children

- Gross Motor
Neck Control /Head Holding - no Head Lag in Pull to Sit maneuver
o Partial at 2 months
o Complete at 3-4 months
Sucking the Great Toe / Geet to Mouth in Supine Position - at 5 Months
Sitting with own support / Tripod Position – at 6 months
Roll Over
o Begins at 4-6 Months = Back to Side and Side to Back
o 6 Months = Prone to Supine
o 7 Months = Supine to Prone nelson: 6.5 months
Sitting without support at 8 months nelson : 6 months
Crawling at 8-9 months
Creeping at 9-10 months Creeping = Crawling with abdomen above the
ground
Standing with Support at 9 months:
Pivoting (rotating in a sitting position) at 9-10 months
Cruising (walking by holding on furniture) at 11 months 10 months
Standing without support + Walking with Support at 12 months
Walking without support at 15 months
Running at 18 months
Walking Backwards at 2 Years
Riding a Tricycle + Stand on one Foot at 3 years
Hopping or Skipping on one foot at 4 Years
Skipping a rope (skipping on both feet) at 5 years

Nothing during 0 to 3 months
Mouthing at 4-6 months
Bidextrous Reach/Grasp at 4 months
Unidextrous Reach/Grasp + Transfer objects hand to hand at 6 months
Palmar Grasp / Objects hold by the palm ,finger only support, thumb not
involved [not the reflex which disappears at 3 months]
o Ulnar at 6 months
o Radial at 8 Month main one
Pincer Grasp / Holding objects between the fingers and thumb is involved
o Immature / Scissor like grip at 9 month - midpoint of the fingers
o Mature / True Pincer Grasp at 12 months – end of thumb and
index fingers
Scribbling at 15 to 18 months
Figure making/Figure Coping
o Vertical Line – at 18 month
o Horizontal Line – at 24 month
o Circle at 3 years
o Square/Rectangle/ Plus or Cross Sign at 4 years
o Triangle / Multiplication or Tilted Cross Sign at 5 years
o Rhomboid or Diamond at 6-7 years
