Results
[Link] of drought stress under different Light
intensities
Withholding irrigation from the plants leads to decreased in leaf RWC under
all three light scenarios, with more rapid Declines in stronger sunlight (Fig.
1).
2.2. Chlorophylls
Total chlorophyll content and the ratio of chlorophyll a to Chlorophyll b (Chl
a/Chl b) showed a slight decrease over Time, regardless of light intensity (Fig.
2-A and C). Moreover,The values obtained from leaves with identical leaf
RWCs Showed little differences among the three tested light levels
Throughout the experimental period (Fig. 2-B and D).
2.3. Gas exchange parameters
As the drought treatment progressed, the values for net Photosynthetic rate
(Pn) and stomatal conductance (Gs) Declined gradually at 60 and 100%
irradiance. However, Under 25% sunlight Pn and Gs Declined faster than
those Exposed to more intense irradiance, Pn Value was close to 2 µmol m–2
s–1, and Gs Was about 0.01 mmol m–2 s–1 on day 6 after withholding water
(Fig. 3-A and C). The status of Intercellular CO2 Concentration (Ci) decreased
slightly for All light conditions in the first 6 days, but the decrease was More
significant in shaded leaves. In the prolonged drought Treatment, the Ci
Value decreased in 100% irradiance and remained almost unchanged at 60
and 25% sunlight (Fig. 3-E). When the leaf RWCs were >75%, with identical
RWC points, Pn And Gs Displayed the highest values under 100% sunlight
When compared to 60 and 25% sunlight (Fig. 3-B and D).
2.4. Photochemical reactions
In the present study, during the experiment period, the Maximum
photochemical efficiency of PSII (Fv/Fm), the Probability of trapped excitation
moving electrons beyond Primary quinone electron acceptors of PSII QA(1–
VJ) and the Ratio of (1–VI)/(1–VJ) which express the efficiency with which An
electron from the intersystem electron carriers moves to Electron acceptors
in the reduced end at the PSI acceptor Side, decreased with increasing
drought intensity, and this Decrease was more pronounced in 100% light
compared To 60 and 25% sunlight (Fig. 4-A, C and E). However, (in Fig. 4-B, D
and F) when leaf RWCs were >75%, Fv/Fm,(1–VJ) And (1–VI)/(1–VJ) showed
little differences under these Three light conditions among leaves with
identical RWCs (Fig. 4-B, D and F).
2.5. Rubisco activity
During the drought treatment period, Rubisco activity Remained almost
unchanged for the first 6 days in 100% Sunlight, but it decreased with
drought stress under the Other two light scenarios, while the decreased was
highly Significant in the 25% light condition. As drought stress Was
prolonged, Rubisco activity decreased more rapidly Under 100% sunlight
than under 60 and 25% sunlight. On day 12, Rubisco activity became similar
for all three Light conditions (Fig. 5-A). When RWC was >75%, RuBisco
activity was relatively higher in dehydrated leaves, Which were exposed to
more intense light when RWC Was identical (Fig. 5-B).
