Parents often give children everything they ask for and do what they like.
Is it
good for children? What are the consequences when they grow up?
Many parents are willing to
accommodate all their children’s needs and give them the freedom to do
whatever they like. Even though this activity can be somehow beneficial, I believe
that it will spoil children and result in a society of individuals who only think about
their own wishes. The fact that parents respond to all requirements of their
children has some benefits. Firstly, this action can keep children happy and prevent
disappointment. If they dream about a smartphone at an early age and then parents
give them one, youngsters will have a rewarding and fulfilling childhood. There
is no need for them to be jealous of their peers. Secondly, that sense of
entitlement will increase the responsibility and independence of children from
their childhood. Because they are allowed to decide their behaviors, they will be
also responsible for any consequences they cause.
However, the sense of entitlement will adversely affect their growth in some ways.
That over-indulgence can lead to the development of selfishness since they have
not been taught to take care or concern about others since they were young. A
child, for instance, was served any dish they like, may never take the taste of other
members of his family into account even when he grows up. Furthermore, the lack
of motivation and assiduity to pursue dreams also stems from spoon-feeding.
Instead of working hard to set aside money, they may become dependent on
parents’ budget as they used to be given everything since they were small. In
conclusion, although parents’ response to whatever children want can give them a
rewarding childhood, it might turn them into a selfish and over-reliant adult.
