Inductive Learning Activity:

1. Observe:
o Provide students with a set of carefully chosen multiplication problems involving
decimals. For example, 1.2 × 2, 0.3 × 4, and 2.5 × 3.
o Ask them to observe the examples and look for patterns, particularly focusing on
how the decimal point is placed in the product.
2. Hypothesize:
o Have students share their observations and propose hypotheses for placing the
decimal point in the product.
o Encourage discussion and allow students to refine their hypotheses through peer
interaction.
3. Collect Evidence:
o Provide additional multiplication problems for students to test their hypotheses.
o Introduce counterexamples to challenge their thinking and ensure their hypotheses
are robust.
4. Generalize:
o Guide students to formalize their hypothesis into a general rule for multiplying
decimal numbers.
o Help them use accurate mathematical terminology, such as "decimal places" and
"whole number product."
