Introduction
The increasing need for the application of Information Communication Technology (ICT) to all
aspects of human endeavour makes it important that the nurse keeps abreast of ICT and its
application to healthcare. This course aims at providing an overview and basic understanding of
how information technology can be applied in nursing practice to deliver quality patient care.
Course Objectives
At the end of the course, students should be able to:
1. Explain the basic concept of computer
2. Demonstrate the use of computer
3. Describe relevant health informatics concepts and electronic health records
4. Demonstrate the use of Information Technology in patient care
5. Identify and use patient monitoring and care devices
