You will hear the librarian of a new town library talking to a group of
people who are visiting the library.
OK everyone. So here we are at the entrance to the town library. My
name is Ann, and I'm the chief librarian here, and you'll usually find
me at the desk just by the main entrance here. So I'd like to tell you
a bit about the way the library is organised, and what you'll find
where … and you should all have a plan in front of you.
Well, as you see, my desk is just on your right as you go in, and
opposite this the first room on your left has an excellent collection of
reference books and is also a place where people can read or study
peacefully. Just beyond the librarian's desk on the right is a room
where we have up-to-date periodicals such as newspapers and
magazines and this room also has a photocopier in case you want to
copy any of the articles.
If you carry straight, on you'll come into a large room and this is the
main library area. There is fiction in the shelves on the left, and non-
fiction materials on your right, and on the shelves on the far wall
there is an excellent collection of books relating to local history.
We're hoping to add a section on local tourist attractions, too, later
in the year. Through the far door in the library just past the fiction
shelves is a seminar room, and that can be booked for meetings or
talks, and next door to that is the children's library, which has a
good collection of stories and picture books for the under elevens.
Then there's a large room to the right of the library area – that's the
multimedia collection, where you can borrow videos and DVDs and
so on, and we also have CD-Roms you can borrow to use on your
computer at home. It was originally the art collection, but that's
been moved to another building. And that's about it – oh, there's
also the Library Office, on the left of the librarian's desk.

Hello and welcome to this audio tour of the University campus. Our
tour today begins at the main gate. The gatehouse dates back to
the year 1600 and has always been the main entrance to the
university site, even if in those days, there were only a few hundred
students in 2 or 3 buildings.
The first building we come to, on our left, also dates from 1600.
Today in this building, you'll find the offices of the university registry
which handles enrolments and other administrative matters. It was
originally built as the University Library, however, and fulfilled that
road until 1955. When the new library was built on the other side of
the river.
Now, looking to our right, we passed the University Theatre. This is
the place where important ceremonies like graduation day are held,
as well as concerts and other public events. This building was built
in 1993 on the site of the old dining room, which was sadly
destroyed by fire. Students can now eat in the restaurant which is
situated opposite the Faculty of law on this side of the river.
We are now entering the university's main teaching blocks. All of
which were built in the late 20 century. The Faculty of law sciences

is on our right and opposite that we see the Faculty of Arts, whilst
ahead of us just beyond the fountain, we can see the Faculty of
Medicine. At the fountain, we turn left, and we soon come to the
main accommodation blocks on our right where the students now
live, and we passed the university car park on our left which brings
us finally to the back gate where you should turn right and walk
down towards the river where our tour ends at the boathouse.

Jane: Fine, except I don't really know what there is to do in town. I
haven't had time to look around yet. You've been here for a year.
Could you give me some ideas?
Sophie: Of course! There's lots of places for students. Firstly, if you
go across the bridge over the river outside the campus and turn
left… Oh no, sorry, that's the garage… turn right, then you'll get to
the bowling alley, which is really popular at the weekends because
it's so close to the campus. On Friday nights, they have a special
discounts for students.
Jane: Oh, that's great! I love bowling.
Sophie: So do you like sports, Jane?
Jane: Yes, I go running and swimming and I play badminton.
Sophie: In that case, there's a running track behind the University
campus and I think they have a badminton court at the Sports
Center.
Jane: Actually, I'm happy just to run in the park.
Sophie: Well, there's a large park in town, too. If you go down the
road opposite the bowling alley and take the first right, then you'll
get to the park. It's quite big and there's a lake in it. You can take a
boat out on it. The University rowing team practice there.
Jane: What about places to eat out? Are there any good student
hangouts?
Sophie: Absolutely. There’s the Elm Tree Café, which is down the
road from the post office in the opposite direction from the river.
The Café is on a fork in the main road and it’s quite an institution
round here.
Jane: OK, well, I'll have to check it out. I'm looking for a part-time
job, so maybe I'll be able to find work there.
Sophie: Mm, you should try - they're always looking for new staff
and they often hire students. Now have I forgotten any other
important places? Oh yes, you like sport, so I should mention the
leisure center. Don't get it confused with the swimming baths, which
are down the road from the supermarket. The leisure center is
opposite. There aren't any swimming baths there, but you can get a
student leisure card which will let you into both. So you see there is
quite a lot to do in this town.
Jane: It seems like there is well. Thanks for all the information,
Sophie.

Hello there. My name's Matt and I'm going to be your guide for the
day. Before your guided tour of the stadium begins, you have 15
minutes to look around the small museum we put together about
the history of the club.
Now, you've got a map of the museum on your leaflet. So, let me
just tell you where to find some of the most interesting displays.
Firstly, I'm sure you'll want to see all the medals and cups that the
club has won over the years. These are on the second floor in the
first big room you come to after you've gone up the stairs. You have
to walk through this room on your way to the exit, but make sure
you leave yourself enough time to have a good look round. If you're
interested in seeing a history of the club in old photos. Going right
back to the 1880s, then you'll find that display on the first floor. It's
in the first room you come to on your right as you walk down the
main corridor(hành lang) from the entrance. You can also see the
type of kit the team members used to play in at various times in its
history and a display in the next room on the same side of the
corridor on the first floor. It's amazing how much fashions in shorts
and shirts changed over the years, and the display bring us right up
to date. This room is really popular with visitors.
Another display that I'd recommend is the one devoted to the
history of the stadium itself and how it's developed over the years.
There's an interesting interactive display where you can press a
button and see how the place looked at different times in its history.
That's in the middle room on the second floor. If you want to see
how the club's advertising has developed over the years, then
there's an interesting display of posters at the end of the corridor on
the first floor, just before you go up the stairs.
Finally, you can watch some of the finest moments in the club's
history in the last room on the left-hand side of the corrido on the
first floor. You can see old newsreels of some of the best goals and
saves and see some of the most iconic players of the last 50 years
in action.
So, enjoy your visit! I'll see you at the exit on the second floor in 15

Now let me give you some idea of the layout of the farm. The
building where you bought your tickets is the New Barn,
immediately to your right, and we’re now at the beginning of the
main path to the farmland – and of course the car park is on your
left. The scarecrow you can see in the car park in the corner, beside
the main path, is a traditional figure for keeping the birds away from
crops, but our scarecrow is a permanent sculpture. It’s taller than a
human being, so you can see it from quite a distance.
If you look ahead of you, you’ll see a maze. It’s opposite the New
Barn, beside the side path that branches off to the right(rẽ về/tách
ra về phía tay phải)just over there. The maze is made out of hedges
which are too tall for young children to see over them, but it’s quite
small, so you can’t get lost in it!
Now, can you see the bridge crossing the fish pool further up the
main path( đi lên trên)? If you want to go to the café, go towards the
bridge and turn right just before it. Walk along the side path and the
café’s on the first bend(ngã rẽ/khúc cua đầu tiên)you come to. The
building was originally the school house, and it’s well over a hundred
years old.
As you may know, we run skills workshops here, where you can
learn traditional crafts like woodwork and basket-making. You can
see examples of the work, and talk to someone about the courses,
in the Black Barn. If you take the side path to the right here, just by
the New Barn, you’ll come to the Black Barn just where the path first
bends.
Now, I mustn’t forget to tell you about picnicking, as I can see some
of you have brought your lunch with you. You can picnic in the field,
though do clear up behind you, of course. Or if you’d prefer a
covered picnic area, there’s one near the farmyard: just after you
cross the bridge, there’s a covered picnic spot on the right.
And the last thing to mention is Fiddy House itself. From here you
can cross the bridge, then walk along the footpath through the field
to the left of the farmyard. That goes to the house and it’ll give you
a lovely view of it. It’s certainly worth a few photographs, but as it’s
a private home, I’m afraid you can’t go inside.

Man: Now, we’ve also put together a map which we’ve sent out to
all the residents in the area. And on the map we’ve marked the
proposed changes. Firstly, we’ll plant mature pine trees to improve
shelter and shade just to the right of the supermarket in Days Road.
In order to address the traffic problems, the pavements on the
corner of Carberry and Thomas Street will be widened. This will help
to reduce the speed of vehicles entering Thomas Street. We think
it’s very important to separate the local residential streets from the
main road. So the roadway at the entry to Thomas Street from Days
Road will be painted red. This should mark it move clearly and act
as a signal for traffic to slow down. One way of making sure that the
pedestrians are safe is to increase signage at the intersections. A
‘keep clear’ sign will be erected at the junction of Evelyn Street and
Hill Street, to enable traffic to exit at all time. Something we’re
planning to do help control the flow of traffic in the area is to install
traffic lights halfway down Hill Street where it crosses Days Road.
Now, we haven’t only thought about the cars and traffic, of course,
there’s also something for the children. We’re going to get school
children in the area to the research a local story, the life of a local
sports hero perhaps, and an artist will incorporate that story into
paintings on the wall of a building on the other side of Hill Street
from the supermarket. And finally, we’ve agreed to build a new
children’s playground which will be at the other end of Hill Street
close to the intersection with Carberry Street.
