EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Rotaract Club of Eldoret of Rotary International, chartered and sponsored by
the Rotary Club of Eldoret – Uasin Gishu, is a voluntary non-profit organization
comprised of young professionals who seek to create lasting change in the world,
in their communities, and themselves.

As a club, we believe that every child deserves a safe, comfortable space to learn,
grow, and dream. Unfortunately, pupils at Kaibole Primary School in Katilia
Ward, Turkana East Sub-county in Turkana County lack that. They are forced to
sit on the floor in a grass-thatched structure that lacks basic shelter and comfort.

Our project aims to construct one semi-permanent classroom and provide 15

desks. This classroom will be more than just a four-walled structure—it will be a
foundation for academic success, providing the pupils with a dignified and
secure learning environment they need to thrive.

We cannot do this alone. We invite you to support this impactful initiative

PROBLEM STATEMENT
Kaibole Primary School in Turkana County, Kenya, serves children from
nomadic families who face significant hardships, including hunger and
inadequate learning facilities.

PP1, PP2, and PP3 lack proper classrooms and sit on the bare floor in a fragile
traditional grass-thatched structure that fails to protect them from harsh
weather. There are also no desks, forcing pupils to sit on the ground, hindering
focus and engagement.

This situation directly affects students' health, safety, and academic

performance. Exposure to dust increases the risk of respiratory issues, while the
uncomfortable conditions make concentration difficult, contributing to
absenteeism and higher dropout rates.

Addressing these challenges with safe, adequate learning spaces will improve
students’ well-being, academic success, and motivation to pursue their
education, ending the cycle of poverty in the community.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES
Overall Goal:
Construct one semi-permanent classroom and provide 15 desks.

Specific Objectives:
As per the school’s request, build one semi-permanent four-walled classroom
with a capacity of 30 pupils made of wooden poles for the frame, with iron sheets
covering the lower half of the walls and wire mesh for the upper half near the
roof, with cemented floor and iron sheet roof. Provide 15 desks.

The construction will be completed within 3 weeks, addressing the urgent need
of a proper classroom and seating.

This would not end with just building the classrooms, this is our signature
project expected to take place in 3-years where classrooms is phase 1 & 2
followed by mentorship and academic review at the 6th month mark.

To achieve these goals, we will raise sufficient funds through partnerships,

donations and volunteer support from stakeholders. Local builders will be hired,
and cost-effective materials will be sourced to stay within the budget of Ksh.
300,050.

METHODS and STRATEGIES

To achieve our objectives, a project committee has been formed from the
Rotaract Club of Eldoret to oversee the fundraising, construction,
communication aspects and timelines of the project. Identify local suppliers of
durable construction materials and local labor to ensure materials and
construction start on time.

We have developed a fundraising campaign targeting local businesses, NGOs,

government agencies, and individual donors who can financially support the
initiative.

Once the resources are in place, the locally hired contractors will begin
construction following the design specifications and complete, including a
cemented floor, by the 3 weeks deadline.

Throughout the project, we will engage stakeholders, sponsors and partners

through regular updates and post-completion reports to maintain transparency,
accountability and goodwill. Once the classroom is completed, we will monitor
its impact by tracking pupils attendance and performances, ensuring our efforts
contribute to long-term educational improvements.

PROJECT IMPACT
Immediate Impact
More comfort and focus: Pupils will no longer sit on the floor, improving
their physical comfort and ability to concentrate during lessons. A proper
classroom structure will also protect pupils from extreme weather
conditions, enabling continuous learning.
Enhanced Pupil Morale: A dignified learning environment will raise pupil’s
self-esteem and encourage greater participation in school activities, leading
to better overall academic engagement.
Improved Health and Safety: By providing a safe and clean space for
learning, pupils will be less exposed to health risks, which will reduce
absenteeism due to illness.

Long-Term Impact
Higher Retention Rates: With improved learning conditions, more pupils
will be motivated to remain in school, reducing dropout rates and
encouraging the community to value education.

RISKS & MITIGATION STRATEGIES

To address potential weather-related delays, we will schedule key construction
phases during favorable weather periods and have temporary coverings to
protect materials, ensuring progress even during adverse conditions.

In case of material shortages or price increases, we’ll work with multiple

suppliers and set aside contingency funds to handle unexpected costs. This
approach will help maintain a steady supply of materials and keep the project on
budget.

To mitigate labor shortages, we’ve partnered with local contractors and will
maintain a reserve list of volunteers to cover any gaps. Additionally, a 10%
budget contingency will help manage any unforeseen expenses, ensuring the
project stays on track.

PROJECT BUDGET
To successfully implement this project, we estimate the total cost at Ksh 300,050.

This will cover:

One Classroom Construction: Materials, labor, and building permits (Ksh
252,550).
Provision of 15 Desks: Building and transportation of 15 desks (Ksh 35,000).

The table below offers a breakdown of the total amount. We have quotes from
different suppliers and went with the most reasonable prices.

Education is the most powerful tool we can give to the children of Kaibole
Primary School, and the Rotaract Club of Eldoret is deeply committed to
improving their learning conditions.
