Once upon a time there was great famine in the land of Agbala Kingdom. Many people died as well
as animals due to lack of food and water. It was such a bad disaster that had never been seen before.
One evening Mr. Lion, the king of the jungle, called for a meeting of all animals in the jungle. The
meeting was attended by all animals because they were always loyal to their king. When all animals had
gathered the king addressed them and asked what could be done to save them from dying.
They all gave out their opinions. Later they all settled for tortoise’ opinion that they should dig out a
well. It was a bright idea and they organized themselves to work in turns. It was strictly put clear that
whoever would not work would not drink or use water from the well.
The animals worked hard but all the days long, hare had been hiding himself. He never took part in
the work. At last they succeeded. There was enough water and the entire kingdom was saved.
